We are a lively student-centered and supportive program that's distinguished for fostering future scholars, our work in math education, and expertise in the application of mathematical principles to environmental sciences. We offer three pathways towards a Bachelor's of Arts in Mathematics (Mathematics, Mathematics with a concentration in Applied Mathematics, and Mathematics with a concentration in Math Education) as well as three minors (Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, and Applied Statistics).
At Cal Poly Humboldt, our curriculum is rigorous yet flexible with a focus on hands-on learning. We help our students to develop basic analytical skills and help to sharpen their ability to think logically, work with abstract ideas, and recognize patterns and structures. Our students will graduate with marketable skills in communication, technical skills, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Courses offered by the department include : College Algebra, Trigonometry, Finite Math, Calculus, Critical Thinking in Mathematics, Elements of Linear Algebra, Discrete Mathematics, Vector Calculus, Ordinary Differential Equations, Partial Differential Equations, Elementary Statistics, Sampling Design and Analysis, and Directed Study.
Qualifications
M.A. or M.S. in a mathematical science with successful teaching experience / or recent professional practice is required. For Statistics courses, a M.A. or M.S. in a field with strong statistical application will be considered. A Ph.D.; and successful teaching experience within the last 5 years is preferred.
