Position Overview
Brava Roof Tile is seeking an experienced and highly organized Laboratory Manager to lead and oversee the daily operations of our in-house testing laboratories which supports R&D, production, and customer sampling / testing projects. This role will be responsible for managing both the Physical Properties Testing and the Analytical Testing Labs ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all testing efforts to support R&D, product development, quality assurance, and certification activities. This is a critical leadership position, ideal for a hands-on manager with a strong technical background in plastics and building materials, excellent organizational skills, and a commitment to laboratory excellence and safety. This position reports to the Director of Material Engineering and will lead a highly talented team of technicians.

Key Responsibilities
30% Laboratory Management :
- Supervise daily lab activities, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in testing procedures.
- Improve lab throughput by identifying and executing performance improvement activities.
- Plan, direct, and coordinate highly complex lab projects.
- Determine optimal scheduling to ensure samples are prepared and measured in a timely fashion.
- Perform weekly KPIs review, identify trends and potential roadblocks, suggest necessary improvements.
- Identify and track equipment performance using Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques.
- Help to specify, design, procure, and qualify new testing equipment.
- Assist R&D with the evaluation and recommendation of new analytical technology.
- Support the development of a state-of-the-art laboratory with the necessary test capabilities
- Assist with equipment installation, maintenance, support, and repairs.
- Work closely with R&D and production teams to understand their product test requirements
30% Sample and data analysis :
Assist team in analyzing various samples of recycled polyolefins, elastomers, inorganic fillers, pigments and other additives used in production of pavers and roof tiles.Verify data quality for accurate analysis and reporting.Create and manage various technical documents, equipment manuals, SOPs, work instructions, and method validation protocols.Help to evaluate current metrology techniques to ASTM standards, oversee and modify SOPs as needed.Review and approve test results, ensure data integrity, and troubleshoot discrepancies or outliers.40% Team Management :
Lead laboratory technicians in carrying out testing and projects as needed.Train and mentor lab technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.Foster a collaborative, safety-focused environment.Ensure proper record-keeping, including sample traceability, raw data archiving, and test reports.Contribute to SOP development and continuous improvement initiatives within lab operations.Partner closely with R&D, Quality, Manufacturing, and Codes & Testing teams to align lab operations with project goals.Participate in cross-functional meetings and provide technical insight and test data interpretations.Support the preparation of test reports for internal use and third-party certifications.What we're looking for
A degree in Analytical Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science & Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline is required.Ph.D. with a minimum of 3 years of experience, M.S. with 7+ years, or B.S. with 10+ years in a lab testing environment, preferably with polymeric or composite materials; at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.Familiarity with ASTM testing standards, analytical instrumentation, and property evaluation of thermoplastics or building materials.Proficiency in a variety of analytical techniques, such as FTIR, DSC, TGA, DMA, EDX, rheology, etc.Experience with weatherometers and xenon arc testing.Experience with physical and mechanical testing of plastics, such as Tensile, Impact, tear and dimensional stability testing.Excellent reporting skills with ability to concisely communicate the meaning of data.Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple testing projects across teams while meeting deadlines.Good understanding of the importance of following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory compliance.Quality and customer mindset.Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.Curiosity mindset with willingness to learn new disciplines.Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 50 lbs.Strong safety mindset.Nice to have
