Sr. Director, Prehospital Care
UPMC Center for Emergency Medicine is looking to hire a Sr. Director, Prehospital Care. This position, based out of Pittsburgh (Oakland), PA, will primarily work weekdays, with occasional evening and weekend requirements. Some regional travel will also be required.
Purpose : Provides strategic and operational leadership for Emergency Medical Services (EMS), ensuring alignment with UPMC's mission and supporting its community needs. Oversees EMS operations with a focus on safety, innovation, and excellence while identifying emerging trends in healthcare and technology for integration into practice. Leads the development and implementation of new service lines, strategic plans, and partnerships that strengthen collaboration between UPMC and EMS agencies. Manages capital and operational budgets, tailoring UPMC marketing strategies for EMS, and advising senior administration on system operations, marketing, and strategic initiatives affecting EMS. Supports academic and research initiatives with the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC faculty, fostering evidence-based practice and continuous improvement. Enhances operational efficiency by creating reliable, cost-controlled systems for ambulance restocking that comply with federal standards. Acts as a visible leader promoting innovation, collaboration, and operational excellence across EMS systems, while performing additional system-wide competencies and duties as assigned.
Responsibilities :
- Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for emergency medical services. Identify emerging trends in EMS, healthcare delivery, and technology; develop strategies for integration into operations. Support implementation of new service lines. Promote a culture of innovation, safety, and operational excellence across EMS operations. Develop and maintain positive working relationship between UPMC and EMS services in area.
- Develop and implement strategic plan for supporting EMS agencies. Develop and manage Capital and Operational budgets. Tailor UPMC general marketing strategies to EMS. Provide consultation to Senior Administration on UPMC operations, marketing and strategic plans affecting EMS agencies. Partner with UPMC Department of Emergency Medicine Physician leadership to support medical command oversite and medical direction.
- Assist University of Pittsburgh and UPMC faculty in the coordination and implementation of research pertaining to EMS. Develop a reliable and convenient system for restocking ambulance services while maintaining cost controls and adhering to Federal guidelines.
Education Requirements :
Advanced degree in Emergency Medical Services or related field (master's level or above), or high school diploma with 5 years of management experience in EMS or related field requiredExperience Requirements :
