Overview
The Senior Safety Technician is responsible for the daily administration and implementation of Thorpe and client's Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) program to ensure regulatory compliance and promote a safe and healthy work environment as part of the Brothers & Sisters Program. This is an operations-based position that supports operational, client, and administrative responsibilities. The Senior Safety Technician will assist site personnel with safety program needs and initiatives under the direction of the Regional HSE Representative.
Responsibilities
- Meet with assigned account(s) client personnel on a regular basis to establish relationships through meetings and / or other means of engaging with client personnel.
- Travel to client location(s) as assigned to provide HSE support and guidance related to issues or conditions that exist onsite, as needed.
- Review daily logs, JSAs, permits, audits and other safety-related paperwork including equipment inspections and tool color coding for compliance.
- Verify status of applicable Corrective Actions and report variances to the Regional HSE Representative.
- Coach and mentor personnel on the benefits of working safely.
- Assist with and participate in JSA meetings and other HSE-related meetings with crews.
- Conduct pre-Job and Site Walk and site audits with employees, the Supervisor, PM or client personnel, as required.
- Discuss specific hazard mitigation based on Yellow Card feedback with Site Supervision.
- Collect, review and forward "Notable" Yellow Cards to PM and HSE Regional Representative.
- Report all incidents to the HSE department and assist operations management in completing post-incident requirements, including initiating and managing investigations under the direction of the Regional HSE Representative.
- Forward reports to the Regional HSE Representative as directed.
- Ensure overall compliance with Thorpe, client, and regulatory agency requirements.
- Conduct employee and supervisor training onsite and at the office / warehouse / shop, as required.
- Meet with the Regional HSE Representative regularly to discuss site safety performance and communicate any unresolved issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skill Requirements
Ability to multitask, prioritize duties, and work in a fast-paced, sometimes hot or dusty environment.Strong knowledge of current construction and general industry safety regulations and the ability to analyze and interpret this data for the safety of employees, job sites, and the branch or region.Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills to coach, train, motivate, and communicate with employees, supervisors, and client personnel.Strong computer skills particularly in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.Be a coachable, team player.Qualifications and Education Requirements
3-5 years safety experience in an industrial setting and familiarity with CFR 29 1910 / 1926 regulations.Accredited safety or industry certifications (e.g., CSST or equivalent) preferred.CPR / First Aid certification must be obtained upon hire.TWIC card required (current or ability to obtain upon hire).Ability to obtain additional certifications as needed.Experience in the industrial construction industry, preferred.Experience in presenting training materials in a group setting to different audiences.Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in accordance with company policy.Satisfactory criminal background check.Physical Requirements
Ability to lift 50 lbs.Be able to walk for extended periods of time on varying terrain and climb ladders in performance of duties.Pass a PFT / RFT and healthcare professional's physical evaluation.The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation. The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate PPE where required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel-toed shoes, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location.
