Duties :
You will participate in the planning and engineering phase in advance of ship arrival by accompanying design personnel on ship checks for upcoming major ship alterations to provide specialized trade expertise for piping systems.
You will collect data documenting current piping system configuration, dimensions, and structural interference that will impact alterations, annotating engineering drawings and developing sketches.
You will develop recommended piping system arrangements to resolve interference problems, to meet special need of the planned installation, and coordinate approval with shipyard engineering department.
You will interpret engineering drawings, TGI's, sketches, ship-check data, and other technical data to determine the best way to manufacture, repair, or modify piping systems.
You will apply thorough knowledge of math and imaginative conceptual skills to plan and calculate complex arrangements, angles, pipe bends, and rolling offsets to exacting tolerance from rough data.
You will perform quality assurance checks of prefabricated piping as well as shipboard installation.

This is a bargaining unit position.
You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and / or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
This position requires that the selectee have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination.
This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
You will be required to Lift / Carry up to 50lbs.
You will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding.

Demonstrating knowledge of the pipefitting pipe detailing and shop manufacturing processes, interpreting, validating, planning, sequencing, laying out, and documenting sectional prefabrication work adhering to exacting tolerances in an economical and efficient manner.
Utilizing design and planning skills to update and modify installation drawings, resolve design, interface and spatial constraint problems, and to minimize the number of pipe welds or joints and the need for relocation of existing piping and / or structures.
Planning, laying out, and using construction skills to devise complex on unit construction sketches.
Preparing working documents envisioning complete multi-dimensional shipboard system based on planning documents and ship check information.
The ability to interpret engineering drawings and visualize objects in three dimensions.
Applying knowledge of mathematics, mechanical drawing, geometry and trigonometry.
