Job Description Summary
The ACC Music Department seeks a full-time faculty member to direct and supervise the Wind Ensemble and other instrumental ensembles, teach applied lessons in Wind, Brass, or Percussion, recruit and build the instrumental program, and teach undergraduate music courses. Additional course teaching assignments depend on the qualifications of the candidate and departmental needs. A successful candidate will develop a comprehensive vision for the department, curriculum standards, and accreditation matters, and will be an active member of professional music organizations.
Job Description
The ACC Music Department is housed within the Division of Arts and Digital Media. This position serves as Director of the ACC Wind Ensemble and teaches applied lessons in Woodwinds, Brass, or Percussion. ACC offers transferable degrees for performance, music education, and commercial music.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
Prepare and teach courses in the field of Music to the student population based on department learning outcomes, using instructional strategies appropriate to community college students and disciplinary standards.
Participate in departmental responsibilities and governance, including curriculum review, program review, assessment of student learning outcomes, and other departmental activities.
Evaluate student progress and provide timely feedback reflecting program outcomes and expectations.
Mentor students in the Music program.
Provide teaching and mentoring that respects equal opportunity for all students regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, political affiliation, or other protected characteristics.
Remain current through professional development activities.
Support division and department goals through active engagement in decision-making and planning.
Serve on college-wide and departmental committees and task forces.
Perform other duties as assigned by the department chair, dean, or executive leadership.
Additional Duties
Direct the ACC Wind Ensemble and any chamber ensembles within the instrument specialty.
Teach applied lessons (Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion).
Develop community partnerships with music organizations and educational entities.
Recruit area high school wind, brass, and percussion students.
Additional course teaching assignments as needed.
Technology
Proficiency with computer applications, online resources, and other technologies for the classroom.
Experience using a learning management system (e.g., Blackboard) to develop course content and manage administrative duties.

Participate in graduation and official college functions.
Maintain regular office hours to assist students and support retention.

Required Education
In accordance with SACSCOC requirements :
Master’s degree in Music or Music Education; or
Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in Music.
SACSCOC requirements may differ depending on courses taught within the discipline.
Preferred Work Experience
Three (3) years of experience in a higher education institution directing a Wind Ensemble and / or teaching applied lessons in Woodwind, Brass, or Percussion.
