Product Development Buyer, Colored Gemstones
The Product Development Gemstone Buyer's role is to ensure and support the sourcing of precious and semi-precious melee and certified gemstones. It includes and is not limited to : excellent knowledge of the current gemstone market with regard to pricing, treatment, and stone availability; estimating prices for jobs; liaising with vendors; analyzing and maintaining key buying reports for the management; working closely with the Product Development and Design teams to source for unique creations while respecting deadlines and managing internal expectations.
Key Duties Responsibilities and Accountabilities :
- Ensuring HW quality standards are met for all the stones that are considered for purchase or consignment.
- Ensuring prompt placement of stone orders based on orders dropped from Product development / special client orders.
- Meticulous tracking of BP's issued, open memos, grading status, rejections, and over issues to keep the supply chain informed of progress
- Foresee sourcing limitations and provide product development and management alternatives to satisfy deadlines
- Coordinating with suppliers regarding shipping instructions, sourcing due dates and priority jobs.
- Communicating with graders to ensure that urgent jobs are prioritized in the grading queue
- Working in partnership with the Gemstone Sourcing Director to ensure sourced gemstones withhold premium quality and fair price standards
- Negotiating prices, if necessary, prior to purchase.
- Effectively communicate with the Gemstone Sourcing Director on day-to-day issues related to purchasing, supplier relationship issues, vendor business analysis, market pricing, and rejection summary.
- Understanding of gemstone treatment types and spot-checking purchases for various types of fillers, dyes and heat treatments
- Work closely with laboratories
Key Job Relationships :
Liaise with cross-functional departments including Design, Product Development, Quality Assurance, Logistics, Inventory Control, Merchandise Planning, and Finance to effectively ensure the needs of the business are met.Keep in constant communication with the vendor base in order to ensure the required delivery schedules are met for Product Development orders, new product launches and client orders.Job Qualifications :
Bachelor's Degree or above with GIA Graduate Gemologist and minimum of 5+ years experience in grading and purchasing Diamonds and Color Stones for high end luxury jewelryExcellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with ManagementAbility to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environmentSelf-motivated with a strong drive for achievement.Strong organizational and problem solving skills necessary.Ability to work independently and without direct supervision.Harry Winston is an equal opportunities employer and welcomes applications from diverse candidates.
