The Super-Sod DOT Fleet Mechanic plays a vital role in maintaining, inspecting, and repairing our fleet of power units, trailers, piggyback lifts, and other logistics equipment. This full-time position is essential for ensuring our transportation operations run smoothly and meet all safety and DOT compliance standards.
Essential Functions
- Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair tractor-trailer bodies, systems, and components.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and services on power units, trailers, and piggyback lifts.
- Assemble and disassemble vehicle engines and clean fuel tanks.
- Oil and lubricate moving parts to ensure effective performance.
- Maintain hubs and axles, adjusting or replacing them as needed.
- Inspect, service, and replace trailer parts, including tires.
- Check and repair brake, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Test all systems and equipment for performance issues.
- Record and report damaged, worn, or broken parts.
- Ensure trailers meet U.S. Department of Transportation road safety requirements.
- Order and install replacement parts using Limble CMMS.
- Identify causes of unexpected breakdowns in logistics fleet vehicles and machines.
- Quickly and efficiently repair broken and out-of-service power units, trailers, and piggyback lifts.
- Prepare reports documenting work performed.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop area, including tools and supplies.
- Coordinate with logistics management to schedule maintenance or repairs.
- Make necessary modifications and implement test runs, conferring with the Senior Safety Manager as needed.
- Occasionally operate various mechanical equipment used in logistics and transportation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

This role involves exposure to direct sunlight and weather conditions 50% of the time. You will frequently encounter fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibrations. The noise level can be loud, and you will also work in an office and a remote maintenance shop location, utilizing standard office equipment.
Physical Demands
The physical demands of this job include :
Occasionally sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.Frequently lifting and / or moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds or more.Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.Full range of motion of arms and legs, requiring good manual dexterity, coordination, and stamina.Position Type / Expected Hours of Work
Winter : 7 : 30 AM to 5 : 30 PM
Spring & Fall : 7 : 30 AM to 6 : 00 PM
Summer : 7 : 00 AM to 6 : 30 PM
On-call duties may be required to accommodate repairs or ensure vendor availability. Days and hours can change at the discretion of the Senior Safety Manager.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during business hours.
Required Education and Experience
DOT, ASE Certification.2+ years' experience as a trailer mechanic.2+ years operating heavy equipment, including forklifts.In-depth knowledge of vehicle systems, such as hydraulics, air brakes, and electrical systems.Lead mechanic or management / supervisor experience.Extensive experience with vehicle diagnostic equipment.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Excellent interpersonal skills.Willingness to work in a safety-aware environment.Heavy equipment operating experience preferred.Must be 19 years of age or older.All potential new hires will undergo a pre-employment motor vehicle, criminal background check, and drug screen.Preferred Experience
