Vacuum Excavation Tech (Air & Hydrovac Operator)

As a SUE Vac Truck Operator, you will operate hydrovac / vacuum excavation trucks for utility potholing, daylighting, and excavation while ensuring job site safety and accurate daily documentation. Responsibilities also include equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and cross-training in utility locating using EM locators, GPR, and utility maps.

What are the core responsibilities for the role?

• Operate hydrovac / vacuum excavation trucks for utility potholing, daylighting, and general excavation.
• Perform daily pre- and post-trip vehicle / equipment inspections and basic maintenance.
• Handle job site setup and safety : cones, signage, traffic control (if applicable), site cleanup, etc.
• Keep accurate daily records of job details : utility exposures, findings, locations, materials used, etc.
• Cross-train in utility locating and designating — including use of EM locators, GPR, and interpreting utility maps / plans.
• We offer on-the-job training and mentoring, especially for techs looking to grow into utility locating / designating roles.
• Support available for obtaining CDL licenses, endorsements, and safety certifications.

Qualifications, Skills, and Competencies :

CDL Class A or B with tanker endorsement preferred, but we are also open to :

We're open to non-CDL candidates who have experience with utility potholing or vacuum excavation using non-CDL vac trucks —especially if they're working toward getting a CDL or are interested in obtaining one. While a CDL is preferred, we have a non-CDL vac truck available, so we'd consider strong candidates who don’t yet have their CDL license.
