SUMMARY
A machinist III is a person capable of setting up and running their machine without guidance for the majority of VACCO parts. They are able to perform these setups without the need for setup parts. They can fully read their blueprints and specs and will perform full first part inspections without the need of supervision. They can adjust the feed / speed of the machine as needed to assure that the parts being made are per all requirements. They know how to select appropriate tools and fixtures and have some capability of grinding / modifying some of their own tools when needed. This person may on rare occasion require a machinist IV to help them if they are asked to machine extremely difficult parts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Without need for supervision performs the following duties :
Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, and setup requirements.
Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining.
Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, and grinders.
Calculates and adjusts the machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut. Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or incorrect machining conditions and adjusts machine controls as required.
Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications.
Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining, fixture, or programming issues. Works with management to find potential improvements with regards to tools or program changes. Works well with others.
Must maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workstation while maintaining safety standards and production efficiency levels.
Keep machine tools clean and in good working order.
QUALIFICATIONS :
Previous experience in machine shop processes of CNC or conventional applications. Some specific tool sharpening abilities is required. Ability to apply concepts of basic math and trigonometry. Ability to read and interpret blueprint drawings. Experience with basic set up and G-Code / Mazatrol programming. Ability to perform first article inspections using precision measuring and gauging instruments on parts being machined or fabricated. General understanding of the entire machining / manufacturing process.
EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE
HS diploma or GED certificate and minimum of 5+ years of technical experience in a manufacturing environment and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience; Or educational equivalent of two-year certificate from college or technical training school and 3+ years of technical experience in a manufacturing environment and / or training.
