Essential Functions
Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient careResponsible for preparing patients for visits with the providersAssists in cast and soft goods application as well as the removal of casts, staples, and suturesMaintains exam room standardsMonitors biohazard and sharps containers and replaces them as neededAssists the providers in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient formsRetrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in the EMR systemPrepares patients' electronic charts before the date of servicePerforms laboratory tests as neededMaintains the inventory of medical supplies and proper maintenance of medical equipmentVerifies that any outstanding testing results are recorded in the EMR system, confirms the appropriateness of the patient to the provider, and notes imaging, DME, or casting needs before provider visit on the date of serviceScans clinical documents into the EMR systemPrints schedules on the morning of the date of serviceEnsures patient receives education regarding medical treatment and therapies as indicated by the providerCreates and promotes a positive patient experienceMaintains a HIPAA-compliant environmentMaintains a clean workspace. High school diploma / GED required. Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations is preferred.Experience
One-two years of experience is preferred.In lieu of experience must have CMA certification.Requirements
The employee must pass the MA competency exam within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment.The employee must have at least one (1) of the following active certifications within the first twenty-four (24) months of employment :Medical Assistant certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT), or per State regulations.BLS certification preferred.Experience with office medical procedures and treatments and knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, staff members, patients, and the public and be capable of establishing good working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.Knowledge
