We are seeking an engineer with expertise in transportation or traffic. The role involves assisting in the planning, design, development, and management of roadway engineering projects, with a particular emphasis on traffic-related tasks. Additionally, this position may contribute to other roadway-related activities, such as pavement condition management.
SUPERVISION :
- Reports to the Director of Traffic & Transportation but may also be given by the City Engineer who oversees the Engineering division of DPW.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Plan and design roadway improvements. Review Traffic Management Plans submitted by the City, by contractors, developers, consultants, etc. to confirm compliance with applicable Federal, State, and City Standards for compliance with regulations.Evaluate plans and proposals from other engineers.Analyze schematics and engineering data.Provide recommendations for transportation policies and roadway designs for vehicles, bicycles, and pedestrians. Support traffic studies for new developments and assess their impact on traffic.Manage transportation-related grants.Perform traffic studies, including speed and vehicle counts and crash analyses.Design roadway layouts, pavement markings, signage, and traffic signals, considering grading and drainage. Assist field crew with pavement marking layouts, including occasional night work.Implement the City’s pavement management plan and coordinate traffic improvements with DPW. Conduct data collection including GIS data for roadways and utilities and cost estimates. Prepare engineering cost estimates and assist with project procurement.Assist in tracking and managing the City’s transportation-related items in SeeClickFix.Collaborate with government agencies and design professionals on transportation projects.Perform additional duties as assigned by the City Engineer or Director of Traffic and Transportation.Performs investigations related to traffic control, pavement management, and perhaps roadway drainage.Assist in reviewing traffic studies for new developments to confirm compliance with City Standards and to determine the impact on existing traffic volumes and patterns.Assists with inquiries and tasks from the Traffic Commission, Bicycle (Advisory) Commission, Complete Streets (Advisory) Committee, Community Development Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, City Council, and others; including attending the monthly Bicycle Commission and Traffic Commission evening meetings and other meetings as needed.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE :
Minimum Requirement :
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering.Three (3) of relevant experience.A valid driver’s license.Preferred :
