We are headquartered in Gothenburg, Sweden, and employ more than 1,500 people worldwide. We are looking for a full-time Grinding Set-Up Technician to strengthen our team in Memphis, TN.
The Manufacturing Turning Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting precision machining processes within the CNC lathe (turning) department. This role focuses on maintaining and improving productivity, quality, and efficiency across all turning operations. The engineer will collaborate closely with production, maintenance, and quality teams to ensure that manufacturing processes meet customer requirements and company standards for safety, quality, and delivery.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership – Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for CNC turning, providing guidance on programming, tooling, machine setup, and process optimization.
Training & Mentorship – Develop and deliver training for production and engineers, strengthening the organization's technical capability in CNC turning and lathe operation.TrustworthinessProblem Solving – Lead root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement projects to eliminate defects, reduce downtime, and improve productivity.
Drive ResultsProcess Development & Optimization – Design, develop, and optimize CNC turning processes (Swiss, multi-spindle, conventional lathes) to achieve precision, repeatability, and efficiency.
Technology Advancement – Stay current with advancements in CNC turning, tooling, and control systems. Evaluate and implement new technologies that improve performance, reduce cost, and enhance stability.New Product Introduction (NPI) – Support quoting, process design, and validation for new products. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability, cost effectiveness, and scalability.CollaborationCross-Functional Support – Partner with production, quality, and maintenance teams to ensure reliable machine operation, process capability, and quick resolution of production challenges.
Team Engagement – Actively participate in problem-solving and improvement activities, fostering open communication and teamwork across departments.Proven ability to mentor and collaborate across teams and sites.Other duties as assignedSkills
Proficiency with CNC programming, CAD / CAM, and GD&T.Strong problem-solving, analytical, and statistical process control (SPC) skills.Expert knowledge of CNC turning processes, tooling, workholding, and machine tool capabilities.Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex machining challenges and optimize performance.Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skillsProficiency in reading technical drawings and using precision measuring instruments.Ability to maintain focus and accuracy in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.Basic computer skills (Microsoft Suite application) for production reporting and quality documentation.Knowledge in GMP and ISO is a plusAbility to follow instructions and work independentlyEducation
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical field. Equivalent technical experience with CNC turning processes will be considered.Professional certifications such as Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or ASQ credentials preferred.Microsoft Office Applications, familiarity with CNC programming, and related process-monitoring softwareExperience
5+ years of CNC turning experience in precision manufacturing (medical device, aerospace, or other high-tolerance industry strongly preferred)Familiarity with quality and regulatory standards such as ISO 13485, FDA QSR (21 CFR 820), GxP, and validation protocols preferred.Experience analyzing process data, troubleshooting equipment or process issues, and implementing corrective actions to maintain production efficiency and compliance.Hands on experience with Tornos or other Swiss-style lathes required.Physical Requirements
Ability to sit or stand and move within an office or production environment for extended periods.Occasionally lift and / or move up to 20 lbs, including tooling, fixtures, or small components.Must be able to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required in manufacturing areas.Excellent visual acuity to inspect parts, monitor machining processes, review technical drawings, and work with computer systems.Ability to hear and communicate clearly in meetings, on calls, and during team discussions.Occasional bending, stooping, or reaching during on-site activities, machine setup, or workspace organization.Working Conditions
Primarily office based with regular interaction in manufacturing and cleanroom environments.Standard Monday–Friday schedule, with flexibility as needed to support project milestones and production priorities.Frequent interaction with CNC machinery, tools, and production materials to support process development, troubleshooting, and optimization.Reporting Structure
