Position : Preschool 1 : 1 Inclusion Assistant

Reports to : Director of Disability and Inclusion

Department : Children & Family Services

Pay Rate : $30 -$32 Job Type : Temp to Hire Expected End Date : June 30th, 2026

The 1 : 1 Inclusion Assistant provides intensive support for 1–2 children (ages 2–8) with exceptional needs in an inclusive preschool classroom setting. Delivers vital classroom support through specialized knowledge of working with children with diverse developmental and behavioral needs. Under the guidance of the Director of Disability and Inclusion, this role works closely with Site / Area Managers, the Education Team, and the Disability & Inclusion team to enhance classroom experience, implement Behavior Action Plans (BAPs), and ensure children can participate fully in daily routines and learning environments.

Essential Function

Inclusion Support

Provide one-on-one support to children with exceptional needs, focusing on communication, social interaction, emotional regulation, and peer relationships.Implement goals and accommodations outlined in BAPs or IEPs, ensuring each child receives the necessary support to succeed.Encourage independence by gradually fading support as children develop new skills and confidence.Collect data on child performance, behavior, and goal progression; maintain clear, accurate documentation to inform inclusion planning and instructional decisions.Foster respectful, supportive relationships with classroom teaching teams while following lead teacher direction.Ensure safety and well-being during classroom activities, transitions, recess, and daily routines.

Teaching & Curriculum Implementation

Support classroom environments to meet developmental needs and interests of all children.Adapt curriculum and routines to individual needs using visual support and adaptive equipment.Follow standards and regulations from Head Start, Title 5, and Title 22.Participate in screenings (ASQ, ASQ / SE) and contribute observations to IEPs and agency assessments (ITERS, ECERS, SACERS).Provide specialized care when required (e.g., toileting, feeding, use of adaptive equipment).

Family Engagement

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with families.Participate in parent-teacher meetings to share child progress.Encourage family involvement in classroom activities and CFS events.

Health, Safety & Wellness

Create and maintain a safe, healthy environment in accordance with licensing and program requirements.Conduct daily health checks and always supervise children.Promote hygiene practices and illness-prevention protocols.Document and report incidents or injuries by agency procedures.

Positive Guidance & Social-Emotional Support

Employ positive behavior guided techniques (redirection, choices, logical consequences).Support children in expressing feelings appropriately and developing self-regulation.Promote a nurturing, inclusive environment that fosters a sense of belonging.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Use culturally and linguistically responsive teaching strategies.Support children with disabilities and ensure implementation of BAPs and IEPs.Demonstrate equity-focused practices and cultural humility in all interactions.

Team Collaboration

Participate in daily routines and classroom tasks (e.g., meals, toileting, cleanup).Maintain effective communication and collaborative problem-solving with team members.Attend team meetings required, in-service days, and trainings.Support substitutes, volunteers, and other classroom staff as needed.

Professional Conduct

Adhere to CAM program standards, agency policies, and performance expectations.Maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.Complete all required paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and a positive attitude; serve as a role model for colleagues and families.Qualifications

Education : At least 12 college-level units in early childhood education or related areas (child development, curriculum, child / family / community). Associate Teacher Permit from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (preferred), OR Valid CDA credential with the appropriate age-level endorsement.

Experience : Minimum six months of experience in a licensed childcare or similar group setting. Preferred : Experience supporting children with autism spectrum disorder.

Deep understanding of early childhood development principles and inclusive best practices.Compassionate and empathetic approach to supporting young children and families.Natural relationship-builder with a warm, engaging, and welcoming presence.Strong knowledge of child-centered pedagogy, with the ability to apply creative and culturally responsive strategies in the classroom.Skilled communicatorable to listen actively, convey complex ideas clearly, and build trust with diverse stakeholders.Organized and detail-oriented, with excellent time management and follow-through skills.Confident in adapting to change, solving problems collaboratively, and seeking continuous improvement.Committed to upholding confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical standards.Bilingual English / Spanish highly preferred.A strong commitment to social justice, equity and the agency's mission to provide high-quality programs to serve low-income individuals and families.Deep understanding – and ability to articulate – the role equity, inclusion, and diversity plays in our work.

Software : Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications : Outlook, Word, Excel, and Internet Explorer. Comfortable using digital platforms such as SharePoint, Asana, Lucid, and DRDP systems.

Confidential and Sensitive Information : Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

Travel : Travel to sites using a personal vehicle may be required based on job duties.
