DESE Research, Inc. is seeking a Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) Deputy Chief Engineer specializing in Countermeasure Mitigation and Discrimination (CM&D). This position provides technical oversight and integration of SE&I Team electromagnetic warfare (EW) and discrimination-related products. The Deputy Chief Engineer will report directly to the SE&I Team Chief Engineer and serve as a key technical leader ensuring system-level integration, performance, and consistency across all SE&I portfolios supporting the Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide technical leadership and integration for CM&D-related SE&I activities.
Oversee the development, evaluation, and maturation of system architecture concepts supporting system-level discrimination.
Lead modeling, simulation, and analysis (MS&A) efforts to assess the impact of EW on system performance and develop mitigation concepts.
Participate in MDA design reviews, test reviews, and technical interchange meetings to ensure consistent understanding and implementation of CM&D concepts across the Missile Defense System (MDS).
Coordinate with SE&I Team industry partners to identify and align relevant technologies and internal R&D (IR&D) efforts with MDA capability development priorities.
Support planning and execution of CM&D-related SE&I Team tasks, ensuring high-quality, timely product delivery.
Lead or contribute to agile project sprints, standups, and retrospective reviews.
Ensure System Design products are compatible with future inclusion of CM&D concepts in the MDS baseline.
Maintain awareness of capability gaps as defined in the MDA Capability Gap Tracker.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics required.
Demonstrated experience in missile defense radar design, operations, and signal processing, with emphasis on target discrimination.
Experience with EO / IR discrimination (both on-board and off-board) desirable.
Understanding of MDS sensors, command and control, and effector systems, as well as adversary countermeasures and their employment.
Experience conducting system concept trade studies, requirements and feasibility analyses, system performance assessments, and battlespace / timing analyses.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proficiency in modeling and simulation of discrimination phenomenology, techniques, and decision logic.
Ability to generate and analyze data and present performance insights to stakeholders.
Proficiency in MATLAB or Python preferred; Java and C / C++ acceptable.
Strong leadership and communication skills, with experience leading teams of engineers performing complex technical work.
Proven ability to communicate results effectively to senior management, executives, and government stakeholders.
Security Clearance Requirements
Active DoD Secret Clearance required (Top Secret preferred).
