Data Governance Engineer

Must Have Technical / Functional Skills 5+ Years of experience in Microsoft Purview, Data Governance & Information Protection, DLP and CASB1. Microsoft Purview - Data Governance

• Implement and manage data cataloging, data classification, and data lineage capabilities across structured and unstructured datasets.
• Configure and run scanning rules for on-premises and cloud-based environments (e.g., Azure, AWS, M365).
• Enable data discovery and business glossary to support data stewardship and compliance initiatives.2. Microsoft Purview - Information Protection
• Design and apply sensitivity labels and auto-labeling policies across Microsoft 365 workloads.
• Implement data encryption policies and protection mechanisms based on classification.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to align labeling and protection schemes with business needs and regulatory requirements.3. Purview Integration with DLP, MIP, and CASB
• Develop DLP policies to detect and prevent exfiltration of sensitive data across cloud and endpoint environments.
• Use Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) to ensure persistent data protection through classification, labeling, and access control.
• Collaborate with security teams to configure Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps (CASB) for monitoring and managing cloud data access.4. Compliance and Risk Management
• Integrate Purview with Microsoft Compliance Center tools for auditing, insider risk management, and regulatory reporting.
• Support access governance efforts to monitor and manage sensitive data permissions and access rights.
• Provide regular assessments and reporting for compliance frameworks (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001).Qualifications :
• 3+ years of experience working with Microsoft Purview or Microsoft 365 compliance / security stack.
• Proven expertise in data classification, protection, and governance using Microsoft tools.
• Strong understanding of DLP, MIP, and CASB concepts and their implementation.
• Experience in hybrid and multi-cloud environments is a strong advantage.Preferred Skills :
• Familiarity with PowerShell or KQL for policy automation and reporting.
• Strong communication and documentation skills to support training and stakeholder engagement.
