The Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protection has several programs addressing environmental health that encompasses the assessment and control of those environmental factors that can potentially affect health. It is targeted toward preventing disease, reducing exposures to contaminants and creating health-supportive environments.
Job Description
What You'll Do : The Assistant Bureau Chief (Health Planning Administrator 3) will work under the direction of the Bureau of Environmental Health and Radiation Protections administrator to assist in planning and directing statewide environmental health programs (e.g., Food Safety, Private Water & Sewage Treatment, Recreation Programs, Lead & Healthy Homes, Lead / Asbestos Licensure & Inspection, X-ray, licensure & Inspection, Radon Licensure & Inspection, Nuclear Materials Safety, & Technical Support). Duties include :
Administrative Duties : Coordinate with supervisors on bureau administration. Develop program budgets (prioritize funding, align staff with programs). Monitor compliance with policies / procedures. Track bureau activity towards goals and objectives.
Liaison and External Relations : Acts as liaison between ODH and external stakeholder. Disseminate information to staff, local health departments and external organizations. Represent ODH at workshops, conferences, and training. Respond to internal / external stakeholder inquiries. Prepare speeches, legislative testimony and professional development presentations. Serve on ODH committees and public health response teams (e.g., Disaster Recovery, Incident Command). Participate in statewide / national workgroups and maintain partnerships. Provide policy guidance and support for bureau staff and local programs.

Qualifications
Position Qualifications : 5 yrs. exp. in planning & administering health programs, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file. -Or completion of graduate core program in field of public health, health administration, preventive medicine, social work, nursing or other health-related field or public policy & management / public administration or business administration AND 2 yrs. exp. in planning & administering health programs, with education & experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file. -Or 2 yrs. exp. as Health Planning Administrator 1, 65245, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file. -Or 12 mos. exp. as Health Planning Administrator 2, 65246, with experience to be commensurate with approved position description on file. -Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above. Unless required by legislation, the selected candidate will begin at Pay Grade 15, Step 1 of the Exempt Pay Range Schedule ($43.09 per hour), with an opportunity for pay increase after six months ($45.51) of satisfactory performance and then a yearly raise thereafter.
