Deputy Director Position
The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is seeking a Deputy Director to lead and coordinate comprehensive financial programs that align with the Court's strategic goals. Reporting to the Revenue Services Director, this role serves as a key subject matter expert in financial systems, supporting the development of innovative solutions for financial reporting, monitoring, and process improvement. The Deputy Director ensures compliance with statutes and regulations, financial policies, GASB, and GAAP, and oversees the Court's involvement in specialized financial programs driven by federal, state, and local initiatives. This position also acts as a strategic advisor to executive leadership and judicial officers on financial matters.
Key responsibilities include :
- Provide Strategic Financial Leadership Oversee complex funding allocations, forecasting, modeling, legislative analysis, and accounting functions to support high-level decision-making and strategic goals.
- Lead and Develop Teams Lead a team of 60+ staff, including Finance Administrators and Managers, with a focus on coaching, mentoring, enhancing performance, and fostering a culture of continuous growth and change agility.
- Direct Revenue Management and Financial Operations Including trust fund handling, fee and fine collection, accounting processes, and fund distribution in compliance with statutes and regulations.
- Ensure Fiscal Compliance Interpret and apply laws, court rules, and legislative changes to maintain adherence to policies and strengthen accountability.
- Drive Process Improvements and Effectiveness Evaluate workflows, automation efforts, systematic program review, implement internal controls, and lead modernization projects to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and accountability.
- Produce Executive Reporting Collaborate with all internal and external stakeholders to deliver data-driven decision support, reports, and resolve complex financial issues.
- Communicate Complex Financial Information Present and explain highly complex financial data, proposals, and recommendations clearly and persuasively to diverse stakeholders in meetings and other forums, such as legislative advocacy, and to support informed decision-making with a focus on impact and driving strategic results.
This is a telework eligible opportunity. This position may be eligible for full or partial telework following an initial 3-6 month training period and contingent upon the needs of the Court.
Selection requirements include the following options :
Option I : Ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in a financial position, at least four (4) years of which must have been managing a team with responsibility for outcomes and timely deliverables of financial work products.Option II : Bachelor's degreewith a major in public or business administration, finance, or a closely related field -AND- six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in a financial position, at least two (2) years of which must have been managing a team with responsibility for outcomes and timely deliverables of financial work products.Option III : Master's degreewith a major in public or business administration, finance, or a closely related field or Juris Doctorate degreeAND- four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in a financial position, at least two (2) years of which must have been managing a team with responsibility for outcomes and timely deliverables of financial work products.Option IV : Doctorate degreewith a major in public or business administration, finance, or a closely related field -AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in a financial position which must include managing a team with responsibility for outcomes and timely deliverables of financial work products.To qualify for Options that require educational credentials, you must attach the required documentation to your application.
