Payroll Specialist

UIC Government Services (UICGS) seeks a Payroll Specialist to join our team in Springfield, VA.

The payroll specialist position is open to both experienced candidates as well as candidates without payroll experience who have a relevant educational background and / or the aptitude for problem solving and working with accounting data. Responsibilities

Reports to the Payroll Manager and works under the direction of the Payroll Supervisor.

Assist in payroll tax registrations and compliance with federal, state and local payroll tax regulations.

Exposure to multiple payroll disciplines including payroll tax compliance, payroll processing, timekeeping, garnishment processing, audit support, responding to data requests, and other special projects.

General administrative duties including responding to enquiries from employees, answering phones, researching pay discrepancies, researching tax agency notices, etc.

Assist with the maintenance, collection, and processing of employee timesheets in Deltek Time & Expense software.

Assist with payroll processing including verifying payroll data, calculation of payrolls, review of payroll reports, and initiating payments to employees.

Assist with responding to data requests and inquiries from employees, other departments, and governmental entities.

Assist with reconciliation of GL accounts related to payroll accounts.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent and a minimum of two years of experience working in a payroll or accounting department OR a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

Knowledge of payroll processes for a multi-state, multi-subsidiary employer, including employment taxes, year-end reporting, and payroll tax compliance.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, SharePoint, and Outlook.

Prior experience with payroll software applications such as Deltek Costpoint and ADP SmartCompliance is a plus.

Union / DBA / SCA payroll experience preferred but not required.

Although prior payroll experience is not a requirement, previous exposure in a related field and proficiency with the required job duties in other disciplines would be a plus.

Detail oriented, organized, problem solver with the ability to pivot from a task when necessary.

Ability to work on a team with the common goal to pay employees accurately and on-time.

There are currently no security clearance requirements for this position, however, candidates must be able to successfully pass a background check. Bowhead reserves the right to change this requirement if necessitated by business needs or contractual obligations.
