The Philadelphia Water Department is a municipal department of approximately 2500 employees working in all facets to provide water / wastewater treatment services to the City of Philadelphia and the surrounding counties. Philadelphia Water Department (PWD) is a municipal department with approximately 2500 employees which provides water and wastewater treatment and services for the City of Philadelphia and some surrounding counties. Northeast Water Pollution Control Plant is PWD's largest wastewater treatment plant. It treats an average of 210 million gallons of wastewater daily, with peak flow of approximately 550 million gallons. There are primary and secondary treatments. There is also an on-site 5.6 MW cogeneration facility.
