Under general supervision of the Program Manager and guidance of Chicago Public Library staff, Teachers in the Library help children successfully complete their homework assignments and improve their school work habits. They work to develop positive relationships with children that will increase their confidence and motivate them to do their best. They collaborate with Library staff to create a supportive learning environment and help students learn to leverage the expertise and information available to them through the Library. This position requires strong proficiency in teamwork, resourcefulness, and the ability to demonstrate and reinforce learning concepts.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Illinois teaching license (substitute and paraprofessional certificates not accepted)
- At least one year of classroom teaching experience
- Understanding of common core standards
- Familiarity with the basic functions of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, and Presentations) software, email, and internet
- Commitment and ability to learn, use, and share Library print and digital resources

Teaching experience, ideally across multiple grade levels and subject areasSolid interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with students, parents, and staff across the organizationWillingness to take direction; ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and service-oriented environmentDemonstrated ability to manage multiple students at various grade levelsAbility to work successfully with students ages 3-19Aptitude for public speakingDesire to help the local communityBilingual individuals are encouraged to applyAbility to commit to a consistent weekly schedule, typically 6-12 hours per weekAbility to commit to attend paid trainingSalary : $30 per hour
