Job Description and Duties
Under the supervision of and receiving general direction from a Deputy Labor Commissioner III, in the State Labor Commissioner\'s Office\'s (LCO) Public Works (PW) Program, the Deputy Labor Commissioner I (DLC I) is responsible for the investigation and enforcement of prevailing wage laws and regulations, apprenticeship standards, skilled and trained workforce requirements, contractor and project registration requirements, Industrial Welfare Commission orders and laws covering workers\' compensation insurance coverage and labor laws under the jurisdiction of the State Labor Commissioner. Public Works may also work in partnership with other government entities on the investigation and prosecution of criminal violations.

Effective July 1, 2025, specific Bargaining Units and associated Excluded State employees are subject to a salary reduction between 2% and 4.62% in exchange for hours in PLP 2025. Duties are primarily performed in a climate-controlled office setting possibly in a high-rise building; cubicle or shared work space under artificial light, utilizing computer screens and other office equipment; may travel in a state vehicle for field work, trainings and other related work. While in the field, exposure to dirt, odors, noise, fumes, uneven surfaces, stairs, high-rise buildings, extreme weather conditions, and fast moving equipment may occur.
