Role Overview
The Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing materials to ensure optimal inventory levels and meet production demands. This role involves analyzing market trends, negotiating with suppliers, and coordinating with all departments to streamline procurement processes.
Job Responsibilities
- Send RFQs (requests for quote) and analyze for best pricing and delivery.
- Prepare purchase orders by verifying specifications and price and delivery.
- Schedule and oversee the supply and delivery of materials and products for both direct and indirect spend.
- Follow up on the status of orders already placed and provide up-to-date information on them by checking with vendors.
- Ensure materials meet specifications, quality standards, and are cost-efficient.
- Coordinate with other departments regarding production goals, timelines, supplier payments, etc. to ensure the consistent and adequate supply of materials necessary for production.
- Assist the supply chain team in reducing cost and risk
- Assist in compiling reports on product and vendor performance needed for making buying decisions
- Assist with maintaining vendor and subcontractor contacts and relationships
- Work with Logistics team to assist with verifying receipt of items by comparing items received to items ordered; resolve shipment errors with suppliers
- Review project information with Sales, Design, Project Management, and Production teams to help determine the required materials for a project
Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required, Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Business, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferredMinimum 5 years’ experience in PurchasingDirect manufacturing experience in lieu of, or in combination with, Purchasing experienceUnderstanding of inventory and its impact on purchasing decisionsExperience using Microsoft Suite (Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)Strong ability to communicate effectively with suppliersMust be able to read and understand manufacturing drawingsAbility to prioritize multiple daily demands while collaborating across all departmentsMotivated self-starter, able to work independently and with others in a busy office and manufacturing environmentPreferred Qualifications
Experience with, or understanding of, contract managementExperience with, or understanding of, demand planningExperience using QuickBooksExperience using an ERP system (SAP, Oracle, etc.)
