Laborer Public Works Department
The City of Fellsmere is seeking a dependable and hardworking Laborer to join our Public Works Department. This position is an important part of the team that keeps our city clean, safe, and well-maintained. The ideal candidate will enjoy hands-on work outdoors, be willing to learn, and have a strong sense of pride in serving the community.
Key Responsibilities :
- Perform manual labor in the construction, repair, and maintenance of city streets, sidewalks, parks, drainage systems, and stormwater infrastructure.
- Assist with stormwater system maintenance, including clearing debris from ditches, swales, culverts, inlets, and storm drains to ensure proper water flow.
- Support efforts to reduce flooding by inspecting and maintaining stormwater structures during and after heavy rain events.
- Assist equipment operators and skilled workers by supplying tools, moving materials, and completing basic tasks.
- Operate hand tools, small power tools, lawn mowers, and other light equipment.
- Help with landscaping, mowing, tree trimming, planting, and general groundskeeping in city parks and public areas.
- Collect and dispose of trash, debris, and litter from streets and facilities.
- Support emergency response efforts, such as storm cleanup, flooding, or roadway hazards.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.Valid Florida Driver License required.Previous experience in general labor, landscaping, construction, or maintenance is helpful but not required; on-the-job training provided.Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical work outdoors in all weather conditions.Strong work ethic, reliability, and willingness to work as part of a team.Bilingual (English / Spanish) a plus for serving our community.Working Conditions :
