Software Engineering Director (Breakthrough)

POSITION SUMMARY

As an Engineering Director at Breakthrough, you will play a pivotal role in leading and managing one or more talented teams of engineers to deliver high-quality products and solutions. Responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations, you will be contributing to the overall technical strategy of the organization. This role includes the crucial responsibility of managing and maintaining all systems owned by the teams you manage.

The location for this role will be in Green Bay, WI or within a commutable distance for on-site time as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in computer science or other highly technical scientific discipline or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

10+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, including 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.

Proven ability to lead and scale high-performing engineering teams in a product-focused environment.

Strong foundational understanding of modern software development practices, architectures, and infrastructure.

Demonstrated depth in one or more core technical areas (e.g., Python, SQL, cloud platforms, or frontend frameworks), with broad familiarity across others.

Working knowledge of application architectures, security best practices, and data integration concepts.

Familiarity with data platforms, distributed systems, and cloud-native infrastructure.

Demonstrated ability to set technical vision, drive architectural decisions, and ensure alignment with business goals.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to analyze complex issues and propose effective solutions.

Skilled in identifying performance bottlenecks, fostering innovation, and driving continuous improvement.

Effective communicator with a track record of mentoring engineers and building team engagement.

Experience with Agile methodologies and iterative delivery practices.

Preferred :

Experience leading the development of scalable, high-performance systems.

Prior success in building and evolving engineering organizations and technical roadmaps.

Passion for developing talent and supporting career growth across distributed teams.
