Center Director (Raleigh Cary GI)

POSITION SUMMARY :

Responsible for coordinating and directing overall operational activities of the Center according to accepted standards. Works collaboratively with Charge Nurse (as required) to oversee the supervision and direction of nursing care and patient scheduling, according to the centers policies, procedures, and objectives.

Responsible for management of all aspects of personnel, education of personnel. This position reports to the Center Administrator and the Governing Board.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Registered Nurse - Associates and / or Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university
  • At least five (5) years of healthcare-management experience
  • At least one (1) year experience in an ASC
  • CPR certification and / or ACLS / PALS certification
  • Evidence of leadership qualities
  • Strong ethical and moral character references
  • Language skills adequate for high-level written, interpersonal, and telephone communication in
  • Computer literacy

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Operations

  • Demonstrates understanding of Center Policies & Procedures;
  • Maintains current policy and procedure manuals and reviews annually for accuracy and completeness
  • Is familiar with federal (Medicare) and state regulations;
  • Verifies that state and federal laws and requirements regarding an ASC are met and documentation is current
  • Analyzes impact of staffing patterns on ASC operations;
  • Monitors staffing FTE utilization and makes recommendations to promote cost-effective man-hour practices
  • Works to maintain maximum utilization of procedure rooms
  • Directs and participates in Center committees, meetings, in-services, and activities
  • Provides input regarding short and long term goals of the Center
  • Ensures Center is clean and facility is maintained per policy, accreditation, and regulatory compliance
  • Ensures equipment is clean, disinfected, sterile (as required), and operational at all times
  • Monitors operational activities for effective and efficient management of daily operation
  • Manages performance of services provided by contracted providers (e.g., pathology, radiology, housekeeping)
  • Prepares or delegates staffing schedules in accordance with vacations, holidays, daily personnel assignments and duties according to experience and skill level to provide quality patient care
  • Ensures staff are cross-trained (as appropriate) to provide a productive and efficient work environment for all areas
  • Evaluates suggestions, grievances, and processes to identify opportunities to improve performance and quality of care
  • Analyzes data from quality assurance performance-improvement program and prepares reports and action plans
  • Shares knowledge gained in continuing education with center personnel
  • Regular and predictable attendance
  • Attends all required education
  • Participates as a team member in patient care as needed;
  • Makes rounds to verify that patient needs are met;
  • Helps relieve staff for lunch rotation
  • Additional tasks as directed by the Center Administrator and Governing Board
  • Serves as liaison between patients, families, nursing, office and medical staff for coordination of quality patient care

Personnel Management and Communication Skills

  • Participates in hiring, training, evaluation, disciplining and termination of staff in accordance with local, state, and federal laws
  • Ensures that staff demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate patient care
  • Works to manage, analyze and evaluate the orientation, staff development and continuing education programs, inservice programs and performance of the ASC staff and counsels appropriately
  • Arranges CPR / ACLS completion and renewal for appropriate staff and physicians
  • Promotes positive and effective working relationships among Center staff
  • Interpersonal relationships center director demonstrates the ability to cooperate, work and communicate with staff, physicians, AmSurg team, and outside vendors / contacts
  • Assesses employee satisfaction
  • Maintains daily time and attendance sheets; Coordinates payroll activities
  • Supervises and coordinates the work of clinical and office staff
  • Maintains confidential personnel files in accordance with federal and state requirements
  • Develops, interprets, and implements policies, procedures, regulations, programs, and recommended practices to meet requirements of regulatory and accrediting organizations
  • Reviews policies / procedures to ensure continued compliance with state, federal, and accrediting-body rules, regulations, and standards
  • Observes and evaluates the performance of all center personnel and works to continuously improve the quality of care and services
  • Counsels Center personnel and makes recommendations for salary adjustments, promotions, and / or terminations

Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) :

  • Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the Center’s adopted quality assessment, performance improvement
  • program
  • Assists in the maintenance, education, and implementation of Center policies and procedures to the Governing
  • Board, the QAPI committee (as required) and the wider Healthcare team
  • Assists in the implementation and maintenance of the Center compliance program
  • Actively contributes to the QAPI process and identifies his or her own role and contributions
  • Ability to analyze data from performance improvement program, prepare reports, and develop action plans for
  • presentation to the QAPI Committee
  • Serves on the Quality Assessment, Performance Improvement (QAPI) committee
  • Serves as the Center Infection Control Officer or delegates to appropriate qualified staff member. Works with Infection Control officer to oversee the Center's Infection Control Program.
  • Oversees Risk Management activities; Accounts for all incident reports and completes follow-up summaries and reports to PI committee;

Responds to sentinel events, utilizes incident reporting system and works with Amsurg Risk Management Resources as needed

Pharmacy

  • Maintains proper DEA requirements in the ambulatory setting
  • Maintains current drug formulary
  • Contracts with Pharmacy Consultant to oversee services
  • Understands common forms of adverse reactions and appropriate documentation
  • Follows AmSurg policy for utilizing Compounding Pharmacies, if applicable
  • Evaluates drug costs and makes recommendations for alternatives and cost savings as needed

Safety

  • Implements best practices and regulations adopted, to provide safety in the workplace
  • Monitors the Center’s physical environment and initiates methods for maintaining safety, comfort, cleanliness
  • Monitors the care, cleaning, and required maintenance of equipment to maintain proper working conditions.
  • Identifies and evaluates need for items relative to trends, center personnel requests, and positive patient outcomes
  • Serves as the Center Disaster Coordinator
  • Serves as the Center Safety Officer or delegates Safety Officer job description to qualified staff member. Works with the Safety Officer to resolve observed or suspected safety violations and hazards to ensure policy / procedure compliance
  • Maintaining medical equipment; Utilities; Safety & Security
  • Complying with Life Safety Codes; Disaster drills, fire drills and Emergency Preparedness; Crash Cart and mock codes
  • Complying with Laser Safety regulations and standards
  • Hazardous materials / Medical waste contracts, rules and regulations
  • Complies with local state and federal safety laws, verifies OSHA requirements are met
  • Maintains emergency power source
  • Monitors the Center’s physical environment and initiates methods for maintaining comfort, cleanliness and orderliness
  • Completing Environment of Care checklist on monthly basis
  • Ensures Center is maintained to provide a comfortable and safe working environment
  • Chairs or participates on designated committees

Financial

  • Works with Center Administrator and Amsurg Operations Lead to monitor and analyze monthly operating reports (MOR)
  • Promotes cost containment and efficient use of Center resources
  • Assists in the development and implementation of capital and operating budgets as needed
  • Works with Center Administrator to conduct and analyze cost benefit analysis to identify potential cost-effective improvements and make recommendations
  • Analyzes and makes recommendations for potential cost-effective improvements within the Center
  • Ensures adequate inventory and manages new product / equipment implementation
  • Monitors and verifies required materials management documentation (i.e., purchase orders, invoices, delivery receipts etc.
