Join us as our next Project Buyer in our International Supply Chain team that support our Tissue Mills Business Unit at Valmet.

Valmet is looking for a Project Buyer to bring your expertise of purchasing materials, supplies, parts, and services required for the company’s products and operations.

You will be responsible to purchase materials, supplies and services required for the company's products and operations in accordance with established policies, procedures and the general principles of Valmet.

Also has full responsibility for the timely and effective procurement of all items for small customer projects as assigned.

Tracks supplier progress and effectively manages their performance to ensure quality and on-time delivery of all purchased items.

This position is located in Biddeford, ME but other Valmet locations can be considered.

Expectations

In this important role, you will be responsible to complete the following tasks :

  • Efficiently sources raw materials, services, equipment, and supplies.
  • Manages purchase orders from creation to invoice processing in the database.
  • Ensures cost-effective material procurement, uninterrupted supply, and quality consistency.
  • Requests, evaluates, and negotiates proposals; handles contracts and major purchases.
  • Establishes long-term agreements with reliable suppliers for frequently bought items.
  • Maintains purchasing records for scheduling, planning, and budgeting purposes.
  • Completes special tasks assigned by the Procurement and Logistics Manager.
  • Ensures vendors meet quality standards and comply with the company's policies.

Requirements

To excel in the role, you will need the following :

Bachelor’s or associate degree in a business administration, Procurement, Supply Chain, Economics, or related field is preferred.

Other experience yielding equivalent technical and operational judgement is also acceptable.

  • Basic knowledge of machining or fabrication practices is required combined with a minimum of 4 years of experience in the pulp & paper or metal trades industry together with project administration, procurement, or manufacturing.
  • A Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) is preferred. or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Must possess computer skills including knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and project management software.
