POSITION DESCRIPTION : Use geographic maps and other geospatial business solutions, including web mapping applications and geo-processing tools to support the FDOT Orlando Operations, other state agencies, and external customers using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and other mapping software.
Analyze spatial data specific to roadways. Develop, maintain, and enforce quality control and quality assurance methods and procedures to ensure that GIS data is current and meets expected quality and reliability.
Serve as liaison between Orlando Operations and District Office GIS coordinators.
Assist in mapping and compiling an inventory of assets within the FDOT Right of Way, including pipelines, inlets, lighting, striping, signage, and other infrastructure.
Maintain a comprehensive GIS database of these assets with updates as new features are added. Interpret existing roadway construction plans to map the assets and roadway features shown on the plans.
Read contract plans and final as-builts to confirm changes to department roadways following construction and update inventory accordingly.
Coordinate with the RCI team to ensure the inventory of assets is accurate. Ensure accurate representation of assets within the GIS system.
Incorporate data on road conditions, maintenance needs, and history into the GIS system. Track asset conditions, maintenance schedules, and repair needs.
Identify patterns and areas requiring maintenance.
Assist in managing maintenance contracts. Serve as PA or APA on maintenance contracts and assist with project-related duties such as processing invoices and assembling SA packages.
Maintain records related to contractual obligations. Facilitate effective communication between stakeholders.
Generate basic reports on road conditions and maintenance progress using the GIS system. Create simple visualizations (maps, charts) to assist management in decision-making.
Present updates clearly and concisely to others both within and outside the maintenance team.
- KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : Knowledge of geographic information systems concepts; geographic information systems software, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, and ArcGIS Online;
- linear referencing concepts. Skills in working with geographic information systems software and data. Ability to learn and utilize new geographic information systems technologies, software, and concepts;
- develop and manage geographic information systems documentation in accordance with Department and / or national standards;
- interpret and communicate technical information relating to geographic information systems both verbally and in writing;
- understand FDOT's specific guidelines, standards, and procedures related to contracts and procurement; assist with coordinating and tracking contract milestones, deliverables, and timelines;
develop and maintain cordial, effective working relationships with others.
OTHER JOB RELATED REQUIREMENTS : Due to the nature of this position, incumbent must respond to emergencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : Experience with GIS Software.
