JOB SUMMARY
The Coordinator 2 - Specially Designed Instruction in Special Education is responsible for ensuring implementation of evidence-based dyslexia instruction to meet the needs of students identified with dyslexia services in accordance with the Texas Dyslexia Handbook and district dyslexia policies and procedures.
The Coordinator 2 - Specially Designed Instruction develops systems to monitor PEIMS coding and professional development for staff to improve compliance.
The Coordinator 2 - Specially Designed Instruction serves as an instructional leader and resource in the development and improvement of district dyslexia programming.
The Coordinator 2 - Specially Designed Instruction ensures the monitoring of student accounting records, progress monitoring and reports in compliance with state and local guidelines for assigned campuses.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Collaborates with unit teams to advise on staff placement at campuses and work together to ensure academic success for all students.
2 Prepares and submits all necessary reports and documentation to district, state, and federal bodies as required. Ensure Public Education Information Management System (PEIMS) coding is implemented and monitored with fidelity.
3 Responsible for monitoring the dyslexia compliance report that focuses on schedules, services, and monitoring status of students receiving dyslexia instruction to meet federal and state requirements.
4 Supports campus administrators and dyslexia interventionists to review student performance data and prioritize student and campus needs specific to dyslexia instruction.
5 Provides training for 504 / ARD committee members in the identification of dyslexia and related disorders, in determining a need for evaluation, making placement decisions and accommodations.
Assists teachers and staff in disaggregating and analyzing data from the district universal screener, diagnostic and curriculum assessments to identify trends and help to focus instruction
6 Develops and coordinates professional development for campus administrators, general and special education teachers, and dyslexia interventionists as it relates to district, local, state, and federal policies.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES CONTINUED
7 Provides reports specific to compliance and academic achievement to the campus and district level administrators.
8 Manages resources allocated for dyslexia programs, including budgeting and material procurement, to ensure optimal support for educational initiatives.
9 Provides support for family and community engagement as well as district / campus initiatives.
10 Conducts IEP reviews and provide related training and support.
11. Assists in the organization and management of State Testing as required.
12. Support teachers with the application of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) using designated materials / methods and accommodations or modifications specified in the IEPs.
13. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree;
- Master’s Degree, preferred.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 3-5 years teaching experience in general education or special education.
- Campus / district leadership experience preferred.
- Texas Teaching Certification with Reading Specialist Certification or certification in a multi-sensory structured language program for dyslexia
Knowledge of dyslexia and instruction of students identified with dyslexia and related disorders
SKILL AND / OR REQUIRED LICENSING / CERTIFICATION
- Valid Texas teacher certification (Special Education certification preferred)
- Communication Skills : Employees must have the ability to manage meeting facilitation and communicate with colleagues, students, and parents.
- Technology : Microsoft Outlook; standard office equipment
- Bilingual Skills : Preferred Spanish
- Knowledgeable of federal, state, local laws, and regulations.

LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic oversight for implementation of dyslexia state compliance, provides project management or team leadership to a group of employees.
Leadership and supervision involve monitoring work and providing guidance on problem-solving and implementation issues. Most of work time is spent performing many of the same duties they are leading.
WORK COMPLEXITY / INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work is substantially complex, varied, and regular requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines.
Independent judgment is required to identify, select, and apply the most appropriate methods as well as interpret precedent.
Position regularly makes recommendations and considerations to management on areas of significance to the department. Supervision received typically consists of providing direction on the more complex projects, issues, and new job issues and priorities.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
Advises on budget development for department.

Decisions are made with greater freedom and discretion, including recommendations that are subject to approval on matters that may affect multiple departments across HISD.
Job is frequently expected to recommend new solutions to problems, to improve existing methods / procedures / services and generate new ideas.
