We are currently seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Engineering Technician I, II or III. Placement will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications, and prior experience.

This position is within JCW's Existing Infrastructure Collection System Team and works closely within the engineering group as well as other JCW departments.

The job duties include :

Engineering Technician I : Pay Scale 15-15 ($25.68 - $34.74)

  • Supports Senior Engineering Technician, Project Managers, and Engineers in the management of infrastructure projects; applies engineering design standards and procedures in completion of routine project tasks;
  • analyzes, researches, and interprets data during review of study and design projects; develops and presents recommendations to project leads for assigned project tasks such as engineering plan review, field investigations, and construction management;

documents and creates data in documents, files, and systems; completes quality control tasks for project submittals.

Provides customer service through responding to inquiries from residents, the general public, consultants, cities, and contractors;

provides information and assistance to stakeholders on standards, CIP project goals, and development activities.

  • Assisting with utility locates.
  • Conducting inspections supporting JCW existing infrastructure programs.
  • Supports Senior Engineering Technicians with JCW's Manhole Rehabilitation Program.
  • Support Senior Engineering Technicians, Project Managers, and Engineers in the management of JCW's collection system asset management program goals.

Engineering Technician II : Pay Scale 16-16 ($27.93 - $41.89)

  • Performing all job duties listed under the Engineering I position.
  • Manages and executes projects and programs in coordination with Project Managers and Engineers; applies engineering design standards and procedures in completion of project and program tasks;
  • analyzes, researches, and interprets data during review of study and design projects and programs; develops and presents recommendations for engineering studies / designs, plan review, field investigations, and construction management;

documents and creates data in documents, files, and systems; utilizes engineering design and review software.

  • Provides customer service through responding to inquiries from residents, the general public, consultants, cities and contractors;
  • provides information and explanation to assist stakeholders in understanding standards, CIP project goals, and development activities;

works through design and construction conflicts with consultants, developers, inspectors, contractors, and the general public.

Works as a lead in coordinating the work of Engineering Technicians and / or guides and supports team members to maximize productivity, facilitate achievement of group and department goals, and encourage continuous improvement in JCW processes;

may function as a subject matter expert in engineering program areas.

  • Developing and maintaining standards and specifications for JCW's Manhole Rehabilitation Program.
  • Manages and executes JCW's Manhole Rehabilitation Program.

Engineering Technician III : Pay Scale 17-17 ($32.29 - $48.43)

  • Performing all job duties listed under the Engineering I and II positions.
  • Directs, manages, and executes projects and programs including the development of project scopes / budgets, standards and procedures, contracts / agreements, and information for the Board of County Commissioners;
  • provides technical expertise and support to engineering and other staff and stakeholders; develops and recommends projects for inclusion in the 5-year Capital Improvement Program;

assists in the development and improvement of the Collection System Asset Management Program.

  • Provides customer service through responding to inquiries from residents, the general public, consultants, cities and contractors;
  • provides information and explanation to assist stakeholders in understanding standards, CIP project goals, and development activities;

works through design and construction conflicts with consultants, developers, inspectors, contractors, and the general public.

  • Works as a lead in coordinating the work of Senior Engineering Technicians and Engineering Technicians and / or leads and supports team members to maximize productivity, facilitates achievement of group and department goals, and encourages continuous improvement in processes;
  • contributes to performance reviews and development plans of team members; conducts and supports technical job-related training programs to a variety of internal stakeholders in a classroom format, in addition to on the job training for team members;

functions as a subject matter area in engineering program areas.

Serves as a resource to internal and external stakeholders; networks with technical professionals through involvement in professional organizations and attending and speaking at technical conferences.

Minimum Job Requirements :

Engineering Tech I :

Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or equivalent; one (1) year of job related experience working for an engineering and / or construction organization;

and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record are required.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or equivalent is preferred.

Engineering Tech II :

Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or equivalent; two (2) years of job related experience working for an engineering and / or construction organization;

and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record are required.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or equivalent is preferred.

Engineering Tech III :

Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or equivalent; four(4) years of job related experience working for an engineering and / or construction organization;

and a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record are required.

Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or equivalent is preferred.

Johnson County Government requires reference / background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department / Agency.
