About the Job

Objective / Overview

The Interpreter - Mandingo will undertake a range of responsibilities related to interpretation, translation, and communication in order to aid Limited English Proficiency (LEP) patients who are seeking Medical, Dental, and Behavioral Health services at the Community-University Health Care Center (CUHCC).

This position will work to guarantee that patients receive care that is both effective and comprehensible, while also being supportive and aligned with their cultural beliefs, practices, and preferred language.

The Mandingo Interpreter will be 60% appointment (24 hours per week), working in-person at CUHCC. The hours are Monday - Friday, between the hours of 7 : 30am and 5 : 30pm, with weekend hours.

Salary Range for this position is $26.03 / hr to $28.73 / hr, depending on qualifications and experience.

Job Responsibilities

Interpretation / Translation Services (100%)

  • Deliver proficient interpretive services for LEP patients across all service lines at CUHCC, ensuring accurate transmission of messages without subjective summarization.
  • Serve as an impartial intermediary in facilitating effective communication between providers, staff, LEP patients and families.
  • Collaborate as an integral team member in the delivery of patient care and services.
  • Effectively communicate and relay essential information regarding the patient's visit, including treatment consent, diagnosis and prognosis, treatment plans, follow-up appointments, and healthcare education.
  • Accurately manage patient information in the Electronic Medical Record (EHR), including referral details and the provision of requested services by the provider while maintaining meticulous and timely documentation within the program database.
  • Uphold utmost confidentiality in all matters pertaining to patient care and visitor concerns for all patients.
  • Handle in-basket messages promptly and in a professional manner.
  • Return phone calls in a timely manner.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments for patients' return visits.
  • Translate patient information materials, forms, and other clinic-related documents and materials.
  • Proactively contact patients to provide appointment reminders.
  • Contribute to various CUHCC Committees and Teams as assigned.
  • Provide constructive feedback to the supervisor and fellow team members.
  • Deliver accurate and appropriate interpretation services.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with diverse patients, their families, and the general public, demonstrating cultural sensitivity and enabling patients to access services effectively.
  • Foster positive interactions with fellow staff members.
  • Work with diverse populations from various economic backgrounds and across different age groups
  • Function as an effective member of a dedicated team of multicultural interpreters.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

All required qualifications are required to be documented on application materials.

Required Qualifications

  • High-School Diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient in English and Mandingo languages (written and oral).
  • Required to pass the CUHCC's language test prior to assuming the interpreter position.
  • As a CUHCC staff it is the employee's responsibility to be enrolled on the MNDHS Interpreter Roster
  • A negative TB test and Hepatitis B vaccine are required for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of Interpreter 40 hours Training Program
  • Previous experience working with community health as an interpreter
  • Strong skills and experience in patient confidentiality and Electronic Health Records (EHR)
