JOB SUMMARY : The RN-Surgical Oncology is a licensed registered professional nurse who is a clinical expert who provides ethical, evidence-based, safe compassionate nursing care.

Surgical Oncology focuses on patient safety and the quality of nursing care. The Registered Nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family by focusing on identifying the needs of the patient, education, patient advocacy, coordination of care and evaluating outcomes.

The RN will function within the CARTI values, including accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.

The RN-Surgical Oncology will provide support to their assigned physician(s) by communicating with the patient and family, while providing nursing support and services during clinic.

The ANA Nursing : Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN possesses excellent communication skills, both written, verbal and non-verbal.

This position is a Safety Sensitive Position . The essential functions, physical demands, and mental competencies of this job require the employee maintain the ability to work in a constant state of alertness in a safe manner.

JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Provides direct patient care within the ambulatory setting, based on the nursing process and within role / scope of practice.

2.Maintains standards of care relevant to Surgical Oncology.

3.Evaluates unstable or complex patient care situations and facilitates appropriate intervention.

4.Implements appropriate clinical decisions and demonstrates appropriate use of expert peers and / or management as applicable.

5.Responsible for management of patient coordination, triage, and direct patient care.

6.Liaison of communication between nursing staff, providers, and clinic staff.

7.Support patient self-management of disease.

8.Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians. 9.Educates patient / family about diagnostic procedures, medications, nutrition and maintenance of health and wellness.

10.Responsible for educational instruction to patients and families with health care needs.

11.Responds to / refers incoming patient treatment-related phone calls.

12.In providing patient care, document using EMR to maintain and / or develop patient records in compliance with practice standards

13.Maintains patient confidentiality.

OTHER JOB REQUIREMENTS : This position may require additional hours outside the normal 8 : 00 am to 5 : 00 pm, Monday through Friday work schedule and occasional travel throughout Central Arkansas.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY : N / A

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION :

  • ADN or BSN from an accredited College of Nursing
  • BLS Certified
  • Valid and current Arkansas state nursing license
  • Valid Arkansas Driver’s License (if travel is required)

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE :

  • 2-5 years’ clinical experience in direct patient care preferred
  • Maintain required number of continuing education units (CEU’s) as specified by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing
  • Excellent computer and other basic office equipment skills
  • Experience in wound care, drain pulls, suture removal, and / or staple removals
  • Surgery scheduling preferred
  • Assistance with procedures and biopsies experience preferred

REASONING ABILITY :

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS :

  • Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form.
  • Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.
