We are looking for associates to enhance guest's experiences through exemplary service and attentiveness.
We host special events from meetings to weddings and celebrations. We are looking for a skilled and experienced Pastry Chef to prepare a variety of desserts, pastries, or other sweet goods and serve them in an efficient, professional manner.
The candidates skill in baking high quality treats should be matched by creativity to develop new amazing tastes and recipes.
The ideal candidate will be well-versed in culinary arts with a passion for sweet and delicious creations. They must adhere to health and safety standards to provide clients and guests with the best possible serving.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Create and prepare all pastry items as required by the business
- Prepare, clean, and organize ingredients for use in the kitchen
- Create and develop recipe ideas from scratch
- Plan the menu of desserts and pastries to complement savory items
- Ensure the kitchen is clean and sanitized at all times
- Oversee a team of junior pastry cooks and other staff members as necessary
- Maintain up to date knowledge about pastry arts and ingredients
- Carry out administrative duties to maintain an efficient workspace
- Oversee the new Homestead Milkhouse
- Be able to read and execute BEOs, making sure food is prepared as specified in banquet sheets
Directly report to the Executive Head Chef and communicate frequently about menu planning, scheduling, and current / anticipated challenges in the bakery
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES :
- Proven experience working as a pastry chef in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment and maintain a positive attitude, even in stressful situations
- Great attention to detail and creativity
- Able to learn and follow recipes and / or instructions accurately as well as multi-task
- High knowledge of pastry arts and ingredients
- Confidence in culinary techniques and skills
- Must demonstrate proficiency in handling all bakery equipment
- Solid sense of planning and preparation for the day ahead
- Diligent and meticulous in making and receiving orders
- Strong organizational, time management, and leadership skills and ability to problem solve
- Punctual and disciplined to ensure optimal work performance
- Willingness to replenish professional knowledge
- In depth knowledge of sanitation principles, food preparation, and baking techniques and nutrition
- Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.)
- Must have ability to supervise and provide exceptional leadership to staff
- Physically able to stand for long hours every day in a hot kitchen
- Certificate in culinary arts, pastry-making, baking or relevant field
EDUCATION
High school diploma / G.E.D. equivalent
RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum two years of job-related work experience with demonstrated competence
- Must have strong background in baking from scratch, both sweet desserts and breads
- Must be able to produce high-end items on a large scale
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
- Must have a Food Handlers Permit
- Demonstrate commitment to guest satisfaction and positive employee and company relations
PHYSICAL TASKS
- Requires standing and / or walking for extended periods of time
- Must be able to lift 25+ pounds
- Must demonstrate ability to bend, kneel, handle, reach, grasp and perform repetitive motions
Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays, depending on the operations hours.
