Sr Manager, Sterile Processing Operations-(3296965)
Description
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Senior Manager of Sterile Processing is responsible for the implementation of policies, systems, and planning for all functions related to the SPD department.
This role oversees the coordination of multiple teams' activities to ensure the efficient procurement, stocking, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of medical devices for surgical and procedural environments.
Additionally, this position provides support to Customer Service, Training, and Business teams as required.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Operations
- Leaders assigned Operations Managers to provide direction to Clinical Operations roles, including Supervisors, SPD Technicians, and others, to support the cohesive completion of work across all shifts.
- Responsible for ensuring procurement, stocking, decontamination, assembly, sterilization, and distribution workflows are performed following established policies and procedures.
- Aligns staffing practices and role assignments to meet expected volume; responds to changes as needed.
- Routinely rounds in all clinical operations areas to evaluate workload and productivity levels; adjust labor allocation as required.
Reviews weekly shift productivity standards against established benchmarks,
- Manages FTE budget for assigned team; justifies responsible use of overtime hours.
- Ensures the physical environment of assigned area is maintained and meets Joint Commission, CMS, and OSHA regulations.
- Initiates and escalates environmental or equipment repairs as needed.
- Oversees and assures daily quality assurance monitoring systems (i.e., biological test reading) and environmental and equipment testing.
Responds to atypical results and oversees remediation plans (i.e., load recall).
Leverages available analytical data to drive process improvement initiatives and staff compliance with tracking system utilization;
participates in developing new and innovative reporting metrics.
Developments and implements a robust quality improvement program that draws insights from several sources, including quality events, safety reports, departmental tracers, and routine audits.
Uses educational and environmental strategies to improve individual and group performance.
- Attends and participates in hospital committee meetings as needed (i.e. Infection Control Committee and Safety Committee).
- Exercises impeccable judgment in identifying, assessing, and respond to urgent / emergent quality and patient safety issues, escalates to senior leadership as appropriate
- Partners with the Staff Development Team to integrate training, regulatory requirements, and other relevant opportunities to improve staff knowledge and performance.
- Serves on project teams as requested
Customer Service Support
- Regularly interfaces with customers; understands the daily production demands, communicates needs to Supervisors, and confirms needs are met.
- Monitors Service Line Liaison Program and ensure customer needs are being met and addresses underperformance as necessary
- Responds to acute issues related to sterile instrument set quality or instrument set availability. Supports the effective response and escalates critical events as necessary to the Director for intervention and / or awareness.
Supply Management
- Assists with inventories as needed and initiates in-house and outside orders following established par levels whenever required.
- Demonstrates knowledge of inventory control practices through stock rotation and removal of expired items from inventory.
- Participates in consolidation and standardization of supplies and equipment for the department.
Personnel Management
- Reviews and approves time-off requests, approves payroll, monitors attendance and tardiness, interprets hospital policies, and ensures adequate coverage for all areas of responsibility.
- Responsible for Human Resource activities, including performance management, employee development, the direction of duties, and performance appraisals;
interview, hire, train and orient, schedule.
- Identifies and utilizes appropriate channels for problem-solving, escalating concerns through department leadership structure to ensure results are achieved.
- Demonstrate flexibility in response to change.
- Effectively prioritizes workload; appropriately delegates and supervises; recognizes employee accomplishments and celebrates successes.
- Promotes and supports a collaborative approach to departmental functions, coordinates efforts and activities to achieve the best outcome
- Performs all other duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED
- CRCST or CSPDT Certification required
- 5-year experience in OR / Sterile Processing / Materials environment required
