Data Center Lead

The Data Center Lead will oversee the daily operations, maintenance, and optimization of the data center infrastructure. This role is responsible for managing data center equipment, power, and environmental controls, as well as implementing lifecycle management practices for servers and storage.
The Data Center Lead will ensure that all data center activities align with federal compliance standards and best practices to support the organization’s mission-critical applications and systems.
Key Responsibilities :
- Data Center Operations : Manage all aspects of data center operations, including server provisioning, equipment installation, power distribution, and environmental controls.
- Hardware and Virtualization Management : Oversee the provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of physical and virtual machines, supporting technologies like VMware, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Lifecycle Management : Implement best practices for lifecycle management of data center hardware, ensuring timely upgrades and replacements to maintain performance and compliance.
- Compliance and Standards : Adhere to federal IT standards (e.g., NIST, ISO) and ensure data center operations comply with security and environmental requirements.
- Monitoring and Reporting : Continuously monitor data center performance, power usage effectiveness (PUE), and environmental conditions;
provide regular reports and recommend improvements.
Collaboration : Work closely with network, applications, and security teams to support seamless integration and maintenance of data center systems.
Qualifications :
- Education : Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, IT Management, Engineering, or a related field. An additional four years of relevant experience may substitute for a degree.
- Experience : Minimum of 5 years managing data center operations, with expertise in hardware provisioning, infrastructure maintenance, and virtualization tools.
- Skills and Competencies :
- Strong understanding of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, cooling, and cabling management.
- Proficiency with virtual and physical server management, including tools like VMware, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage incidents and optimize data center performance.
Preferred Qualifications :
- Experience working in a federal government or regulatory-compliant environment.
- Certifications in data center management, IT infrastructure, or related fields (e.g., CompTIA Data+, VMware Certified Professional).
