The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training.

The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Project Manager needed to oversee grant and protocol portfolio for the Reilly group and CardioGenomics Program (CGP) - reporting to Dr. Reilly.

The mission of Dr. Reilly's group and the CGP working with collaborators is to pursue the highest caliber of biomedical cardiometabolic research, from functional studies to genomics through translational and clinical research at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.

To achieve its goals, Dr. Reilly is seeking a Project Manager who will work closely with him and collaborators in the writing, editing, and strategic planning of grants, as well as in the administrative oversight and management of funded grant awards, study protocols and programs.

This is an opportunity to work one-on-one with the director and CGP collaborators to create and implement compelling proposals .

The ideal candidate will have a combined science and writing background as well as experience with writing study protocols (IRB, DUA and IACUC), and grant proposals, particularly for NIH funding (e.g., R01s and PPGs).

Responsibilities

  • Write, edit and guide on grant submissions as well as IRB, IACUC and MTA / DUA protocols. Collaborate with PIs in developing project timelines and in the management of the proposal and projects, from concept to submission.
  • Ensure integration of all grant components and compliance with funding solicitation, sponsor requirements and regulatory offices (e.g., IRB, SPA etc).
  • Provide a comprehensive editorial review as well as write and / or provide writing support for a variety of scientific disciplines;
  • advise on proposal content and organization; assist with updates across the application as the science and research aims change;

and contribute to formatting and figure editing.

Generate compelling, accurate, and appropriate content to reflect the research strategy as well as compiling institutional information and support documents.

Create and maintain descriptions for facilities & other resources as well as grant component templates according to university and sponsor policies that will provide standards for and foster the submission of complete and thorough applications and protocols.

Assist in post-award administration oversight of funded awards and programs. Assist with the financial reconciliation and management of federal and private grants.

Take responsibility for financial activities pertaining to the grants and awards, including oversight of ARC processing of invoices, obtaining signatures, check requests, travel reimbursements, purchase orders.

  • Organize or help to organize meetings, seminars, and conferences.
  • Assist in compilation of results / findings, and preparation of reports and publications and interactions with journal offices.
  • Perform other responsibilities as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in the biomedical sciences, or equivalent in education and experience, plus four years of related experience.
  • Experience in proposal writing at a higher education institution or in a research setting.
  • Highly organized, enthusiastic and personable individual with strong writing and presentation skills as well as previous grant writing / submission experience.
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret complex scientific, medical or technical data.
  • Flexibility and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize among a large number of diverse responsibilities.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented, collaborative environment as well as to adapt to changing processes and procedures.
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills required.
  • Capability to work both independently and as a team member, ability to multi-task and respond professionally in challenging situations is essential.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (i.e., Outlook, Excel, and Word).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree, preferably in the biomedical sciences.
  • M.D. or Ph.D. in a basic science, translational, or clinical field preferred.
  • History of related proposal development and / or grant writing / submission experience and / or contract experience.
