Job Summary : PBS Wisconsin is looking for the next Executive Producer (EP) to lead our Cultural Affairs work and team. Join these award-winning producer-directors in the creation of multi-camera studio, mobile production truck and field production-based broadcast and digital programs.

The EP and team produce live and post-produced performing arts content that showcases Wisconsin’s diverse people, places and cultures.

  • This position requires producing-directing experience with multi-camera and multi-media production; leadership and management skills;
  • creativity and innovative vision; excellent writing skills; superb communication; independent thought and editorial judgment;

flexibility and the ability to lead and participate in teams. This position does not require appearing on-camera for show host work.

The EP will be required to plan strategically in a changing media environment and manage complex projects, with a variety of community partners, on deadline.

This is a leadership and supervisory position that reports to the Director of Production.

Responsibilities :

  • Provides leadership for broadcast and / or digital content, programs or projects and their teams, including strategic and long-range planning, evaluation and development of pitches and content, staff performance coaching and feedback, creating and communicating goals to staff, and coordinating production, administration, procedures and agreements.
  • Directs various administrative aspects that may include booking guests for interviews, maintaining team schedules and deadlines, and creating and / or maintaining program and / or project budgets.
  • Supervises the work of hosts, producers, reporters and / or support staff for the production of broadcast and / or digital content.

May serve as back-up host or fill-in for producers when necessary.

  • Serves as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders. Collaborates with other content creators in pre-production through post-production processes.
  • Leads editorial planning meetings and generates program ideas for segments, shows, and digital projects.
  • Monitors and evaluates program content and employs editorial judgement to generate program ideas, and create, write, and edit content.
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and / or approving hours worked of at least 2.

0 FTE or equivalent employees.

Direct live and pre-recorded broadcast and non-broadcast video programs and projects. Direct the studio production and / or remote production team during the project.

Education :

Preferred : Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Arts / Video Production or related field preferred.

Qualifications :

Required Qualifications :

  • Four or more years professional video production experience with producing and directing multi-camera productions in studios and / or remote locations.
  • Demonstrated understanding of effective and creative use of production elements to produce engaging long-form video projects, including : script writing, voice-over, soundbites, video, music, sound design and graphics.
  • Proven leadership and project management skills. Ability to provide strategic planning for projects, effective editorial guidance, coaching, supervision, and evaluation / critique of video edits for the work of others.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to effectively develop and manage several projects simultaneously, including excellent attention to detail, creating and following production budgets / timelines and consistently meeting deadlines under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to manage and prioritize multiple communication streams.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience producing and / or directing performing arts video productions.
  • Experience clearing media and music rights and overseeing production-related contracts.
  • Experience producing broadcast programming designed to support fundraising initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience with, and understanding of, social media best practices and tools.
  • Experience forming and maintaining collaborative relationships with community partners with the goal of producing media productions.
  • Knowledge of the diversity of Wisconsin’s arts, people and cultures.
  • General understanding of PBS, public media, state universities, state government or non-profit organizations.

Work Type : Full Time : 100%. This is a hybrid position headquartered in Madison, WI. Some work will be required to be performed in-person, onsite, at the designated headquarters work location.

Some administrative production work may be performed remotely at an offsite, non-campus work location. Production-related duties will be performed both on-site in headquarters campus work studios and at locations throughout Wisconsin as project needs dictate.

Final schedule can be discussed in the offer stage, but fully remote candidates will not be accepted.

Appointment Type, Duration : Ongoing / Renewable

Salary : Minimum : $80,000 ANNUAL (12 months). Depending On Qualifications : Expected salary range is $80,000-$88,000 annually.

Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

Additional Information : This position regularly requires travel within Wisconsin for occasional work assignments and other production activities requiring evenings, weekends, and overnight travel.

The person in this role must have the ability to independently travel to all required locations at agreed upon times. They must also be able to transport any needed production equipment with them and arrive at the scheduled time for production activities.

Travel expenses will be reimbursed as appropriate within UW policies. Please note, any driver must be able to be approved as a UW Authorized Driver to receive mileage reimbursement.
