About ACCESS College Foundation
In 1988, two Norfolk businessmen established the ACCESS College Foundation (formerly known as the Tidewater Scholarship Foundation) to administer the ACCESS program.
The idea for ACCESS began with a story about New York businessman Eugene Lang, who promised to pay for a sixth-grade class's college education if they graduated from high school.
This inspired the founders to create a program that would help underprivileged children gain access to college funding.
Over 36 years, the ACCESS College Foundation has helped more than 85,000 students and families with college entrance examinations, financial aid applications, and enrollment processes.
The Foundation has awarded $865 million in financial aid and scholarships to these students.
The new CEO will benefit from ACCESS’ strong financial position, including an annual operating budget exceeding $6 million and an endowment exceeding $60 million, which will increase substantially due to a current capital campaign.
