Description
The Part-Time Laboratory Assistant, Chemistry is a part-time month position responsible to the Chemistry Lab Coordinator.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Grading papers
- Setting up and taking down the chemicals / equipment / handouts needed for classes
- Cleaning and storing of equipment
- Inventorying of chemicals and equipment
- Preparing chemical mixtures
- Helping in the recovery of waste chemicals for disposal
- Documenting amounts and types of waste recovered
- Testing out experiments / checking accuracy of standards
- Temporarily watching students in the event that a professor needs to step out of the lab
- Answering the telephone in the lab coordinator’s absence
Competencies
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must have a working knowledge of chemistry fundamentals
- Knowledge and skill to operate a personal computer
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must be able to work independently, respect confidentiality and maintain professionalism in working with students, faculty, staff and visitors
Qualifications
Required Education / Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Attend Chemistry classes for at least one semester with good attendance
