Summary :
Under the general supervision of the licensed Physical Therapist and the Clinical Manager of the department the assistant is licensed by the Department of Health to assist in the practice of physical therapy.
In accordance with the plan of care established by the physical therapist provides treatment to improve the functional status of their patient by achieving or restoring strength endurance and mobility.
Physical therapist assistants provides treatment to patients of all ages as defined by the scope of practice of the department in which they work.

Hospital-wide- Department-specific- Job-specificWith an established plan of care will independently execute patient treatment program to include : range of motion therapeutic exercise strength training gait training and mobility training in order to achieve goals established by the patient and their physical therapist.
Utilizes proper body mechanics for personal and patient safety. The physical therapy assistant will demonstrate the ability to safely lift transfer and mobilize patients / equipment in their care.
Employs the use of therapeutic modalities : ultrasound whirpool electrical stimulation mechanical apparatus massage manual therapy hot / cold application safely and with demonstrated competency verified by the physical therapist / clinical coordinator.
Continuously monitors the patient in their care adjusting the course of treatment to achieve outcome desired by patient; in consultation with the physical therapist is able to progress the patient and / or recommend continuation of or discharge from physical therapy.
will notify physical therapist of need for patient reassessment or reevaluation. Educates and trains patient / families / caregivers in proper performance of exercise use of equipment or assistive devices to be utilized outside of treatment session with physical therapy assistant.
These settings may include hospital home school and community. Will provide written documentation as necessary.Records findings accurately in the patient's records;
communicates information in a clear and concise manner and respects patient confidentiality. Documents status of patient at time of discharge through the Interagency Report identifies goals achieved recommends continuation of physical therapy as necessary.
Provides daily account of treatment statistics billing slips and other necessary forms.Participates in departmental in-services team meetings and quality assurance activities.
Maintains and cleans equipment and work environment.Participates in departmental and / or interdepartmental quality improvement activities.
Performs other related duties as directed.
Other information :
Qualifications : Associate Degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant Program licensed by the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations Department of Health Division of Professional Regulations.
Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
New graduate considered clinical experience in acute care setting preferred may include clinical fieldwork experience in acute care.
Physical Requirements : Must be fit for duty in accordance with OSHA standards and program specific needs. Work requires walking and long periods of standing and the ability to bend twist grasp and demonstrate physical mobility designed for patients care plan.
