The Opportunity

Expanding Personal Injury Law Firm has an immediate opening for a Pre-Litigation Storm Claim Paralegal in in our Lafayette, La office location.

We are seeking a dedicated Pre-Litigation Storm Claim Paralegal to be accountable to provide the best possible customer service to our clients and act as their advocate when working with third parties on their behalf.

This is an ideal position for a genuine and hospitable individual with the skills to effectively communicate with individuals of all cultures and backgrounds.

This role requires strong interpersonal skills where professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity are showcased. A successful candidate for the role will be detail-oriented as maintaining accurate case files is a primary day-to-day function.

Success in this role will also require strong oral communication, phone etiquette, and guest relations skills as they are accountable for providing hospitable and excellent customer service.

As a Pre-Litigation Storm Claim Paralegal, you must be able to ensure accurate and efficient processing of firm matters from inception to suit.

What Winning Looks Like :

  • Accountable to provide the best possible customer service to our clients and act as their advocate when working with third parties on their behalf.
  • Contact clients, insurance companies, and adjusters as necessary.
  • Meet with clients to obtain discovery responses and conduct deposition preparation
  • Contact third parties such as experts, adjusters, and insurance companies on behalf of the client, and to follow up as needed
  • Maintain confidential information, including property damage information, insurance details, and contact information
  • Initiate continuous follow-up with clients regarding receipts for policy coverages, repairs, estimates and invoices, and other relevant documentation such as before and after photos of properties
  • Initiate insurance claims when necessary
  • Accountable to ensure that all matters assigned are handled as quickly, accurately, and thoughtfully as possible from sign up through disbursal
  • Follow the Litify Matter Plan for each matter assigned and complete each task timely, accurately, and completely
  • Ensure all data is properly and accurately entered into Litify
  • Organize, save, and file all matter-related documents
  • Draft, save, mail, fax, and / or email correspondence and supporting documents
  • Assist in the preparation, filing, and service of pleadings or demands
  • Assist with discovery, including but not limited to, the preparation and completion of written discovery and scheduling of depositions and court filings
  • Keep track of case expenses, including copy and postage charges, entering into Litify for each client
  • Accountable to provide handling attorney support as requested and as outlined in CMS Tasks.
  • Timely response and completion of tasks assigned by handling attorney
  • Accurately gather and document activities in the firm’s database

Skills Needed to Win :

  • Communicate : Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Must be able to draft professional letters that are free of grammar and spelling mistakes.
  • Be Empathetic : able to deal empathetically with clients who have experienced substantial damages to their property, while still maintaining professionalism.

Must be able to work as a team.

  • Present Solutions : able to problem solve, follow instructions, be creative, use discretion, ask questions when necessary and be detail oriented.
  • Be Honorable : Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality and display good judgement

Preferred Education & Experience :

  • Previous legal assistant or paralegal experience preferred.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Customer service experience preferred. Property insurance claims experience preferred.
  • Competent Computer literacy : able to learn new programs quickly and accurately. Strong keyboarding experience.
  • Spanish-speaking is a plus.

Physical Requirements :

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
