Head Start Cook

Location : Bryan Texas, at our Neal CDC

Job Description : We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook to join our team at the BVCAP Head Start / Early Head Start Neal Location.

The Cook will work as an effective team member at each assigned site, ensuring the preparation and maintenance of food at appropriate temperatures.

This role involves adhering to Department of Health rules and regulations and Head Start Program Performance Standards. The ideal candidate will have knowledge or be willing to learn about proper food preparation, temperature control, sanitation, and portion sizes.

Essential Job Responsibilities : Food Preparation & Clean-Up (70%)

• Assemble food, dishes, utensils, and supplies needed for timely meal preparation.
• Prepare high-quality, nutritious food in quantity, as directed by the Child Adult Care Food Program.
• Follow standardized recipes.
• Adhere to sanitation and safety procedures for the Head Start kitchen.
• Wash dishes, pots, pans, and utensils using approved sanitation methods.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen.
• Complete routine maintenance of kitchen and equipment, including weekly deep cleaning.

Delivery and Inventory (25%)

• Deliver meals to classrooms as assigned.
• Order and maintain supplies as needed.
• Receive orders from vendors, ensuring proper items have been delivered.
• Plan menus and maintain food inventories.
• Reconcile meal services for submission to the Child Adult Care Food Program monthly.

Qualifications :

• Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalency
• Driver's license preferred, may be required in some centers.
• Ability to problem-solve and respond appropriately to unexpected issues (e.g., food shortages, equipment malfunctions) while adhering to meal schedules.
• Ability to obtain a current food handler’s card within 90 days of hire.
• Must be able to obtain CPR & First Aid certification.
