Job Summary

The Social Sciences Collegiate Division Coordinator manages the SSCD Core’s instructional infrastructure, notably in managing the annual Core scheduling process and in providing regular instructional support to the Chairs and instructional staff of the eight SOSC Core sequences.

The position performs routine assignments related to academic, research, clinical or administrative programs. The Coordinator supports the SSCD’s mission by processing student teaching appointments, publicizing and supporting SSCD-sponsored events, liaising with other offices, and supporting the SSCD Master’s schedule and planning needs.

The Coordinator manages Student Affairs for three minors in the Social Sciences (Democracy Studies, Latin American Studies, and Geographic Information Science), which entails serving as point of contact for students, coordinating curricular offerings, tracking student progress, and publicizing and supporting events hosted by those minors.

Additionally, the Coordinator supports the general operations of the SSCD Master’s office.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the administrative operations of the Social Sciences Collegiate Division (SSCD), under direction of the SSCD Administrator and Master.
  • Manages graduate student teaching appointments in the SSCD by establishing and communicating policies and procedures for appointment processing;
  • receiving, auditing, and recording requests for teaching assistants, preceptors, graders, and graduate student lecturers;

sending and tracking offers; coordinating payments with the College Dean’s office and graduate divisions.

Assembles and maintains the SSCD Core teaching schedule, comprising over 300 course sections each year, in consultation with the Core’s faculty chairs and the Master’s office, and submits and maintains the SSCD Core online course schedule;

maintains the SSCD portions of the College Catalog and online course schedules, including the Social Sciences Core (SOSC), Civilization Studies (CIV) sequences, HMRT sequences, and other SOSC offerings, by compiling content from various programs and majors, proofreading and reviewing content for accuracy, communicating College deadlines and policies, and collaborating with the Registrar’s office to resolve problems.

Assists the SSCD Core’s faculty chairs in support of their responsibilities within the SSCD, including communicating with the instructional staff on the chair’s behalf, scheduling staff meetings, resolving logistical issues, and other appropriate tasks that enable the faculty chairs’ work;

coordinates instructor desk copy and student book orders for the eight SSCD Core sequences by soliciting common reading lists from each sequence, submitting bookstore orders, and working with publishers to obtain instructor desk copies.

Publicizes SSCD events via multiple channels, which includes printing and posting physical media (posters, fliers) around the College.

Oversees and maintains content for SSCD websites; collaborates with College Communications to expand the online presence of SSCD programs, events, and initiatives.

Facilitates communications between and among students, faculty members, College advisors, and other College stakeholders.

Interprets and conveys relevant policies to students, staff, and academic personnel, bringing concerns to the SSCD Master’s attention, and facilitates communication between and among students, faculty members, College advisors, and other College stakeholders.

  • Assists the SOSC Writing Program co-Directors in pairing writing instructors with class sections in the Core and assists in other administrative tasks as necessary, including scheduling meeting spaces and coordinating with other College entities.
  • Schedules regular and ad hoc program meetings for SSCD Master. Coordinate SOSC / CIV faculty chair and instructor meetings, training workshops, hiring processes, and events such as evening lectures and film screenings.

Logistics support may include event planning, marketing, vendor selection and coordination, travel arrangements, and on-site staffing.

  • Compiles and submits quarterly reports on special honors and BA thesis papers, and other domains as necessary.
  • Manages the administrative operations of the Democracy Studies, Geographic Information Science, and Latin American and Caribbean Studies programs, under direction of the Director / Chair of the respective programs.
  • Serves as program adviser, student contact, and subject matter expert on administrative, curricular, and academic requirements of the program.

Responds to inquiries by students and their College advisors about program requirements.

Coordinates with program faculty to ensure courses are staffed, scheduled, and publicized. Liaise with the program’s leadership and instructional staff about curriculum and student progress.

Supports all aspects of the minor’s curricular requirements with other duties as needed.

Publicizes program events via multiple channels, which includes printing and posting physical media (posters, fliers) around the College.

Oversees and maintains program website, featuring regular updates for new students, alums, core faculty, and announcements.

Facilitates communications between and among students, faculty members, College advisors, and other College stakeholders.

Schedules regular and ad hoc meetings for Faculty Chair, student activities, and departmental social events. In consultation with Faculty Chair, prepares necessary reports and presentations for faculty meetings.

Maintains the departmental calendar, regularly apprising the chair of upcoming events, deadlines, and the status of ongoing projects.

  • Uses general understanding and experience to administer the delivery of services to program participants and / or beneficiaries.
  • Plans and conducts quality assurance reviews and recommends changes as appropriate.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education :

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience :

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.
