Position Summary & Responsibilities :
Position Summary :
This position is responsible for receiving evidence from law enforcement agencies; ensure it is stored in a manner which will preserve the evidence for testing and in a secure manner while following established quality assurance procedures.
The candidate will coordinate forensic examinations with the forensic science laboratory staff and record relevant evidence data in a complex Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following :
- Ensure accuracy of data, to include evidence items, names, case numbers, and all required information entered into the LIMS.
- Maintain security of the evidence room and ensure all policies and procedures relating to access to the secured area(s) are followed.
- Comply with all forensic science laboratory policies regarding evidence submissions, retention and return.
- Keep the laboratory director / assistant laboratory director(s) and / or quality assurance manager(s) informed of issues relating to non-compliance, security, safety and LIMS.
- Maintain a positive attitude and assist customers and fellow employees in matters relating to evidence and the laboratory quality assurance policies.
- When requested, provide training to Kansas law enforcement on the marking, sealing and submission of evidence to the forensic science laboratory. Some travel required.
- Have an understanding of physical evidence to ensure proper storage and preservation.
- Travel as assigned weekly to cover duties in one the forensic science laboratories and potential for overnight stays.

- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Experience with data entry
- Experience in inventory control and management
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, criminal justice or forensic science
- Experience working in a forensic laboratory
- Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) experience
- Prior experience working for a law enforcement agency or in a position regularly interacting with law enforcement
- Exceptional organizational skills
- Adaptability and ability to multitask and prioritize daily activities
- Ability to operate office equipment, personal computers, and communication systems
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions; read and comprehend written materials
- Ability to record, file and transmit information
- Ability to project a professional image when interacting with KBI laboratory customers and forensic scientists
Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements
As a condition of employment, you will be subject to a pre-employment process to include a polygraph examination, fingerprint based records check, and comprehensive background investigation, including reference check of past and present employers.
The pre-employment process will be waived for current KBI personnel who have previously completed the screening requirements
