Job Summary :
We are looking for a (part-time) adjunct instructor to co-instruct machine shop practices for the day-time courses in our B.
S. in Mechanical Engineering and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering Technology programs. At least an associate degree in mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology or related fields with substantial experience in machine shop practices is required.
A B.S. degree in one of the above-mentioned fields is preferred. The specific experiences that we seek in a successful candidate are as follows :
Extensive experience with (and professional-level competency in) operating a metal lathe, mill, drill press, wood planer, saber saw, framing saw, bandsaw, miter saw, chop saw, screw gun, and cordless drill.
Full awareness of how to use the aforementioned machines safely. Ability to explain to the students the capabilities of the machines and how the students should use the machines to fabricate their parts and operate the machines safely.
Ability to simultaneously observe multiple students and notice that unsafe operations need to be halted immediately. Ability to keep in mind what the minimum requirements for satisfying the assigned machining of components and fabrication of assemblies entails.
Ability to work effectively with the full-time faculty that will also be in the machine shops at the same time as the students.
Required Qualifications : At least an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field required.
Substantial experience in machine shop practices required.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field preferred.
Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check. Candidates for hire will be required to sign a waiver authorizing the background check and produce a Social Security Card.
