Overview

Join the Healthy Relationship Utah team as a Family Life Educator (Stepfamily Education Coordinator)! The primary focus of this position will be supporting USU’s Healthy Relationships Utah initiatives.

The successful candidate(s) will coordinate local programming and teach relationship skills throughout the state of Utah, both in-person and virtually.

Candidates must have a strong desire to strengthen stepfamilies. Curriculum-based courses will be taught on-site and in partnership with community partners throughout Utah.

Family Life Educators will be expected to work independently, remotely, and as a team. The position is benefited and is contingent upon performance and grant funding.

Healthy Relationships Utah is an Extension initiative that offers FREE curriculum-based, relationship skills courses. These courses are taught in-person and virtually in partnership with state agencies, youth-serving organizations, correctional facilities, alternative high schools, behavioral health centers, etc. throughout Utah. This position is telework eligible WITHIN the state of Utah.

Responsibilities

The successful Family Life Educator candidates will be responsible for all aspects of programming associated with grant sponsored activities.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Facilitate regular relationship education courses in-person and virtually.
  • Develop, coordinate, and maintain partnerships with community organizations.
  • Recruit, retain, and manage class participants (., text, phone, email).
  • Coordinate with county Extension faculty to support county relationship education initiatives.
  • Coordinate incentives and other programmatic supports where applicable.
  • Maintain program, financial, and performance measurement records.
  • Attend and contribute to regular team meetings, trainings, and conferences.
  • Adhere to Domestic Violence prevention and performance measurement protocols.
  • Abide by the terms and conditions of the grant proposal and sponsor guidelines.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications :

  • Bachelor’s degree in family studies, social work, sociology, education, psychology, criminal justice, or related field plus two years of teaching experience presenting, training, and / or leading groups, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must live in the state of Utah.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
  • Reliable Internet and a home office or work space to facilitate online classes.
  • Commitment to nondiscrimination and equity in programming.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to and from partnering agencies (work mileage will be reimbursed by the grant).
  • Position contingent upon successful completion of a background check.

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in family studies, social work, sociology, education, psychology, criminal justice, or related field plus two years of teaching experience presenting, training, and / or leading groups, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Trained in Smart Steps for Stepfamilies curriculum and experience in family-life programming.
  • Proficiency in case management, client retention, and collaboration with family service organizations.
  • Experience working with community partners.
  • Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE).
  • Proficient in Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Strong commitment to strengthening family relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Experience in curriculum planning, presentation, and classroom management.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Windows-based operating systems.
  • Competence in creating, editing, and maintaining written materials.
  • Skills in records maintenance, inventory control, and database management.
  • Understanding of office management principles and procedures.
  • Aptitude for fostering effective teamwork and making administrative decisions.
  • Ability to coordinate meetings, events, and communicate effectively using various media.
  • Familiarity with communication and marketing techniques, as well as university policies and procedures.

Advertised Salary

Minimum $23.00 per hour, commensurate with experience

Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and / or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes.

The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions. This position requires moderate physical effort.

Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position, including lifting up to 50 pounds, walking and standing.

  • MHDFS : Master of Human Development and Family Studies (non-thesis degree);
  • PhD in Human Development and Family Studies. A Gerontology Certificate Program also is administered by the department.

The department has 30 faculty members, over 300 undergraduate majors, and over 80 graduate students.

The department is committed to optimizing the lives of individuals, families, and communities through excellence in research, teaching, and extension.

Our nationally recognized faculty lead research, instructional, and outreach efforts in the areas of marriage and family relations, human development from infancy to later life, early childhood education, family financial management, and marriage and family therapy.

  • In the last fiscal year, the department generated $9.5M in research, service, and outreach expenditures. Units within the department include the Adele and Dale Young Child Development Laboratory, which provides service for children and families, research, and training pre-professionals;
  • the Dolores Doré Eccles Center for Early Care and Education provides high quality day care services and is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children;

the Marriage and Family Therapy Clinic (MFT) provides therapy services to individuals, couples, and families; and Housing and Financial Counseling (HFC) services, which provides programs for first time home buyers, reverse mortgages, and debt management.

The department is a proud partner of Cooperative Extension at Utah State University. Our faculty provide a variety of evidence-based family life education programs across the state.

Signature program areas include stepfamily education, healthy relationships, and parenting.

Extension Specialists within the department and college oversee research-based programs around the state. Their relationship education programs include courses for individuals who are single, dating, married, divorced and remarried.
