Position OverviewThe University of Kansas (KU) is seeking applications for an endowed, tenure-track Assistant Professor and Assistant Scientist position in the Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment (CLC) and the Clinical Psychology Program.

We are seeking a clinical scientist with a program of research in addiction prevention and intervention approaches who can contribute to the research activities in the CLC and clinical educational activities in the Psychology Department.

This is a full-time, tenure-track position to begin Fall 2025. The position is well suited for applicants who wish to devote substantial effort to their research program, with 60% total cumulative effort designated for research, and the remainder divided among teaching (20% or 1 course per semester) and service (20%).

This 9-month position is funded by the Judy Janes Endowed Professorship and offers a competitive salary and generous start up package.

The position is listed as 50% Assistant Professor and 50% Assistant Scientist and breaks down duties accordingly. However, considering the full position as 100% effort, the position is cumulatively 60% research, 20% teaching, and 20% service (details are listed below).

About the Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment :

The Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment (CLC) was established in 2018 to advance understanding, prevention, and treatment of addiction and related disorders, promote health and improve quality of life, and reduce stigma.

The CLC brings together scientists, practitioners, policy makers, and students across diverse disciplines from the KU Lawrence campus, KU Medical Center, and community partners, with the purpose of supporting collaborative research and community-academic partnerships that leverage the expertise of center members and partners.

The CLC has robust pre and post-award grant support services and statistical design and consulting support.

About the Department of Psychology :

The KU Department of Psychology includes 27 full time faculty members and three doctoral programs (Social, Clinical and Brain, Behavior and Quantitative Science).

Our APA-accredited clinical psychology program adheres to a clinical science model of training and is composed of both a general training program and a major area of study in clinical health psychology.

Job Duties :

Please note that the position description is listed as 50% Assistant Professor and 50% Assistant Scientist. In total, the duties comprise a 100% effort position at the rank of Assistant Professor & Assistant Scientist.

Assistant Professor (50%)

  • Research (20%)
  • Conduct research in an area of expertise related to addiction prevention and intervention that complements current strengths in the department.
  • Maintain an active research program that continues to grow in depth, breadth, and importance.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals, present findings at professional conferences, and pursue and maintain external funding.

2. Teaching (20%)

  • Teach 2 courses per academic year in the department.
  • Mentor graduate and / or undergraduate students in research.
  • Serve on graduate student committees that supervise and evaluate progress toward degree completion.

3. Service (10%)

Provide general service to the Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment, the College, the University, and to the academic profession.

Assistant Scientist (50%)

1. Research (40%)

  • Conduct research in an area of expertise related to addiction prevention and intervention that complements current strengths in the department.
  • Maintain an active research program that continues to grow in depth, breadth, and importance.
  • Publish in peer-reviewed journals, present findings at professional conferences, and pursue and maintain external funding.

2. Service (10%)

Provide general service to the Cofrin Logan Center for Addiction Research and Treatment, the College, the University, and to the academic profession.

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Psychology from an accredited clinical psychology program (American Psychological Association, Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System, or a closely-related license-eligible field.)
  • Record of research and scholarship focused on addiction interventions for either prevention and / or treatment
  • Demonstrated capacity or potential to conduct and sustain a rigorous, externally-funded research program
  • Experience in or strong potential to mentor students at the graduate and undergraduate levels and to teach core classes for the clinical psychology PhD program
