About Us : Buzz Oates is a fully integrated commercial real estate firm headquartered in Sacramento, California. Real estate services provided include asset management, property management, development, and construction services, primarily for the benefit of the affiliated Buzz Oates’ real estate portfolio (mainly held in the Pac West funds) encompassing over 28 million square feet, comprised primarily of industrial properties throughout the Western United States, with a significant presence in California’s Greater Sacramento Valley Region.
The Opportunity : We are seeking an experienced and strategic attorney to join our senior leadership team as General Counsel, responsible for leading all legal matters for Buzz Oates.
The General Counsel position will be responsible for upholding and promoting Buzz Oates’ values throughout their department and the organization.
This is a unique and exceptional opportunity for a highly motivated and results-oriented attorney to evolve and structure the legal department in the context of the company’s growth plan and to play a vital role in shaping the future success of our company.
Responsibilities : The ideal candidate will have extensive transactional experience, with significant experience in real-estate related matters, and a willingness to tackle a wide range of legal and strategic issues.
- Provide comprehensive legal counsel and guidance to the Chief Executive Officer and senior executive team on all legal matters, including, but not limited to real estate transactions, acquisitions, dispositions, development, construction, financing, and leasing, as well as corporate governance and structuring.
- Develop and implement a strategic legal risk management program.
- Oversee the negotiation, drafting, and review of complex legal documents, such as purchase and sale agreements, leases, joint venture agreements, loan documents, corporate organizational documents, and construction contracts.
Develop an appropriate balance of performing in-house legal work and delegating to outside counsel.
- Grow and manage a network of outside counsel relationships; supervise outside counsel to ensure cost-effective management of legal resources.
- Lead the in-house legal team and ensure efficient delivery of in-house legal services.
- Stay up to date on current legal developments impacting the real estate industry and the company’s operations.
- In coordination with outside counsel, oversee and manage disputes and litigation.
Qualifications :
- Minimum 6 years of legal experience in a leading real estate company or law firm.
- In-depth knowledge of real estate law and transactions, including acquisitions, dispositions, development, financing, and leasing.
Experience with corporate matters is desirable, but not required.
- Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
- Show initiative, high energy, and a desire to succeed, while demonstrating enthusiasm and passion to engage with employees throughout the organization.
- Willingness to bring a sense of service and stewardship to the role for the benefit of the company and real estate portfolio.
- Strong business acumen, a strategic mindset, and desire to work in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent negotiation, drafting, and legal writing skills.
- Superb organizational and time management skills with the ability to provide leadership, supervision, and training for employees.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Bar admission in the State of California.
