Job Description
The Assistant Controller assists with ensuring effective accountability and custody of financial assets; is responsible for accuracy, integrity, monitoring financial accountability and compliance with internal controls, and applicable regulatory mandates and reporting provisions thereon.

Essential Functions / Duties :
- Assist with establishing and maintaining internal controls.
- Provide monthly, quarterly and annual financial analysis and reporting.
- Responsible for control and monitoring of the College's investment accounts. This includes but is not limited to, investment account reconciliations, interest allocations, monitoring postings to the general ledger on a timely basis.
- Assist with budgeting process.
- Supervise control of subsidiary ledgers for accounts payable, accounts receivable, etc. Review monthly subsidiary ledger reconciliations for accuracy and completeness.
- Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of the overall functionality, data flow and output expectations for the administrative system.
- Supervise the bank reconciliation process. Review monthly for accuracy and completeness.
- Coordinate month end closing procedures and schedules.
- Assist in preparation of the end of fiscal year financial reporting.
- Conducts periodic audits of the general ledger.
- Completes tasks in a timely manner for end of year activities and annual audit preparations.
- Supervises, trains and evaluates assigned staff.
- Continually monitor the accounting environment for changes / updates to accounting procedures and principles. Attend continued education seminars / conferences as necessary for professional development.
- Prepare reports and analysis worksheets for all College departments and the State Auditors as requested.
- Ensure and monitor proper and timely posting of cash / electronic payments to ensure the accuracy of the accounting records.
- Develop and maintain training documentation for the administrative system functionality for Business Services.
- Prepare journal entries as needed to record or correct accounting entries.
- Maintain regular attendance / punctuality.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Makes decisions within accepted standards and in accordance with Florida State Statutes, State Board of Education Administrative rules, and Department of Labor laws.
- Ability to work cooperatively with all college personnel and students.
- Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication.
- Demonstrated commitment to community involvement.
- Knowledge of the Florida Higher Education and reporting system preferred.
- Experience in governmental accounting preferred.
- Knowledge of principles and practices of accounting and accounting software applications.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with a variety of individuals within and outside of the college, frequently in professional and administrative positions.
- Ability to work independently on general assignments, with the responsibility for planning details of procedure and methods to obtain definite objectives and to make decisions within broad limitations of policy and professional standards.

Working Conditions / Additional Information
- This position is a full-time on-campus position located at our Winter Haven campus. (Remote / hybrid options are not available.)
- Weekend and evening work may be required.
- Position may be required to work during College closures (such as winter / spring break and inclement weather closures).
- Reliable transportation is required for travel to campuses and centers. Possession of a valid Florida's Driver's License is required (or must be eligible to obtain a Florida's license within 30 days)
- Travel to seminars and conferences required.
Required Education :
Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in accounting.
Required Experience
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience in accounting is required.
- Experience in Higher Education and Governmental Accounting is preferred.
