Job Summary
The Equipment Superintendent is a manager responsible for the onsite management of Zachry Construction Corporation’s equipment fleet in (City, State).
This person must be ethical in all business practices, including dealing with vendors, manufacturers, and employees. This person must be a resourceful problem-solving individual who is willing to relocate and be available to work nights and weekends when necessary.
Essential Functions
SAFETY
- Ensure a safe work environment for all employees.
- Follows all policies, procedures, and regulations related to safety.
- Uncompromising attitude toward safety.
- Conduct and participate in daily safety meetings both on the job and companywide meetings.
QUALITY
- Ensure all maintenance and repairs are completed in a quality manner.
- Follow up and verify.
COST CONTROL
- Maintain equipment in good safe working condition at the lowest cost possible.
- Use good judgment when purchasing parts and services.
- Manage outside vendors as if they were our employees.
- Use estimates to help manage costs.
- Return unused or unneeded parts to the vendor.
- Use national accounts or preferred vendors when possible.
BACKLOG MANAGEMENT
- Maintain the accuracy of the maintenance backlog.
- Completeness of backlog (must match the condition of the machines on the job).
- Accurate descriptions of maintenance and repair work required.
- Correct estimates of man hours needed to complete maintenance and repairs.
LUBRICATION / OIL ANALYSIS
- Maintain accurate lubrication schedule.
- Maintain fuel records.
- Maintain hour meter records.
- Ensure proper oil sampling and timely shipment to the lab.
- Monitor Oil Analysis results and take appropriate action.
PLANNING / SCHEDULING
- Attend and participate in daily / weekly job site scheduling meetings.
- Schedule PMs and repairs for the least impact on the job schedule.
- Understand job schedule and equipment needs to ensure utilization of Zachry equipment fleet.
- Plan to eliminate unnecessary freight, outside rental equipment, and panic purchases.
TRAINING
- Train subordinates in safe, efficient, and quality methods of completing duties.
- Ensure maintenance staff has the proper training to comply with regulatory and company policies and procedures related to their job duties.
- Train operators and operations on efficient uses of equipment to avoid misuse of equipment.
- Recommend personnel for specialized training.
RECORD KEEPING
- Ensure all maintenance records are properly documented within the Equipment module in the SAP Database.
- Ensure the accuracy of fuel, oil, and environmental records.
- Conduct and keep records of inspections.

- Must have at least 5 years of supervisory experience related to maintaining heavy equipment.
- Must be detail-oriented and have excellent organizational skills.

- Must beable to manage people.
